Hi All,

After it's early machinations the Omega continues to give good service (nearly 9000 miles now) and I'm even contemplating doing a service/oil change and sparing it a little TLC........

I've read the various threads in these pages about cleaning up "Dim" headlights. My dipped beam is akin to the proverbial "Glow-worm in a sweaty sock" - so I set out to do this but quickly realised that the OUTER lenses were relatively clear & clean. The problem appears to be cloudy/dirty inner lens (The one that looks like a big hemispherical lump of glass)

Main beam is fine. The car is a 52 plate standard 2.2 16v CD(I imagine there are many variants of headlights?)

Is there any way to access these lenses in order to clean them?? - short of complete removal/dismantling??

Complete removal and dismantle, basically. I'm an advocate of the 'buy a spare set, refurb, then stick them on' method. You might get a set of lamps for maybe £20, maybe even less. Saves the worry of not getting them back together before work tomorrow, kind of thing.

The misty glass is an odd one, though. The how to regarding fitting new headlamp adjusters will show you how to get a lamp apart. Very easy, actually.

that's the projector bit ......  All projectors in all cars are 'dirty'

 If you have done 9000 mls without an oil change you have been a very naughty boy get on with it post haste

Ah No - Oil changed at Head gasket time (5000 miles ago)

I do mine at 3000mls but perhaps I am over cautious.

For some time, to have changed the oil would have doubled the value of the car!!

Which reminds me, mine was done a year ago and it's done about 8500miles(I'm quite surprised it's that low) so it is due soon. I'll do it at the same time as the wishbones.

  earlier this week I mentioned about crappy headlights. advertised on breakers-yard for a pair of xenons, but only had one reply. loads of halogens available. the xenons came today as complete units & they,re ok

Actually it was in the category of - "I'm not spending another penny on that **** car!!"
