Sten's 2.2 CDX Auto
« on: 13 May 2013, 22:24:44 »

Hi all,

A bit of background first. I've owned quite a few Vauxhalls over the years; Corsa, 4 Astras, Vectra GSi, Signum. My last car was a Seat Altea FR which I sold to help fund a house move but to be honest it bored me and was uncomfortable, I needed another Vauxhall in my life. My budget was £1k and I fancied an auto for a change. Many hours of online browsing led me to a few well priced Omegas fairly local to me, I've always fancied one so it seemed the ideal time to pounce. The first one I went to see was a little rough around the edges and overpriced. The second one I viewed, test drove and it was perfect! I paid the asking price and drove it home there and then..

It's a 2 owner car, just ticked over to 80k miles with stacks of history and completely unmarked bodywork and interior. Previous owner since 2004 was in his 80s and judging by the condition I'd say it's been garaged and the back seats probably never used.

Here she is, on the day I picked her up

The interior was already in great shape, I gave it a quick clean to get it up to my standard:

The only slight issues are a faulty CD player and the electric sunfoor is a little temperamental.

Plans include assigning my private plate, a service, some new front brakes, polish and wax, drive and enjoy! :)

Nice looking car mate - phantom sunroof seems an issue with Omegas.

Nice clean car  :y :y
As for the sunroof open it fully and clean all the runners and then get some white lithium spray grease and spray both the runners and the winder cables with lots of grease and wind the roof back and forth a good few times, wipe off excess and then wind a few more times then a final covering of grease should do the trick.  :y Just keep it lubed regular and shouldn't give anymore probs.  :y :y

Got a few bits done on the car today.

Gave it a service, got all the parts from 'carparts4less' for £37 including delivery which seemed pretty good.

It's not covered many miles since the last service so everything was already pretty good, although the pollen filter looked like it was ready for replacement as they usually are:

Also fitted some chrome door pins, quite a decent little touch I think.

Engine bay given a quick clean, looking pretty good for a 12 year old bus:

Lastly, I gave it a quick wash, dry with some quick detailer and applied some tyre gel:

It's going great so far, really loving it.

Looks good.  :y

Just one minor point, as this is a facelift model I think that is the wrong pollen filter. The correct one is a carbon coated one I believe.
