I know I can't put an omega on a trailer and tow it with an omega, what are the options for me and my omega to tow another omega?

e.g. can i use a towing bar without a driver in the car being towed?
or what about a dolly?

Also what about associated problems of towing an auto?

There's an omega sized space on the drive that needs filling!

If the other mig is auto, you wont be able to tow it unless the engine is running! If you do, you'll wreck the 'box!
Is the car far from you/is it driveable/road legal?

If it is and you have breakdown cover, use that!

for an auto, the book says something like 50 miles at 50 mph max.


or just unbolt the propshaft and your fine.

not sure on the weight restrictions though, as thats a very heavy lump to tow and May be over the cars limits.

Legally you cannot tow another Omega with yours, too much weight.

Bear in mind that if the towed vehicle has any wheels on the road it must be road legal

How strict are the police in your area? I scraped a senny and on the weigh bridge, went in at 3925 kilo, 2800 when it was taken off the trailer. The police around here seem to pull you if it looks dangerous or being driven in a bad way

some good points there fellas ta, wasn't sure about the towing weight, whether u get increased weight allowance due to car being towed being on the ground.
Haven't chosen next mig yet but would be within 50 miles.
Really like the breakdown recovery option though!

IMHO, it's not worth risking breaking the law!

It's hard enough avoiding getting done on the road without deliberatley going out of your way to get nicked!

i would think your average plod wouldn't notice if you were being sensible but i do see a lot of vosa inspections locally due to amount of trucks we have.

Wouldn't want to knowingly break the rules, as i do have access to a decent tow vehicle and trailer just wanted to know what can and can't do.

Towing weights for an Omega range from about 1700-1850 kg. This is for a braked trailer.

Unbraked trailers (which is what a car on an A frame effectively is) are limited to 750kg by law.

Trailer or not, you will be a tonne overweight and the only circumstance in which it would be legal is to tow a disabled vehicle "to a place of safety".

As Jimbob said, they're ok to tow up to around 50 miles at a max speed of 50mph. I had mine towed home by the AA after crank sensor failed, and that was a distance of around 20 miles - no problem.

I've towed many Omegas on an A frame from as far a field as Portsmouth and never been pulled, however, it is illegal and I will admit that the two together take some stopping even at 60mph

Iv e towed wifes mig on a frame with mine when starter packed up. wouldnt want to go far with it though you certainly know its there. However had an Alfa 156 on it and hardly noticed it at all.
