Emissions test
« on: 25 July 2013, 00:26:45 »

Had one done today as a pre MOT check due to shed load of bother last year and yes, it failed again.
Do i need a genuine VX cat or is there a good pattern part out there somewhere?
Also what prices are we looking at. Any advice would be gratefully received, ta. :(

Went into Drive Vauxhall in Bury St Edmunds yesterday to enquire about a new cat and it appears i can no longer get
a genuine VX  for my model. Had two cats fitted before passing test last year with a lot of jiggery pokery :-X, so i think
it,s getting to the re-placement car stage purely due to cost verses value  basis. As before any advice appreciated.

So you have a new cat last year, and its failed again? Or did I misread that?

If (genuine) cats are failing that quick, I'd looking at what else could be causing either poor emissions or cat damage.

Pattern cats are pretty universally shite. Noisy, and often unable to pass emmissions after a few months.  Generally the advice on here if you do need new cats is to try an find a good, 2nd hand, genuine one, rather than pattern

No TB, the cats that failed last year were both pattern parts so am loathe to go down that route again. As i can,t
get genuine ,(my local VX dealer says the last recorded price was £661 + vat  :o, but no longer available) i think it,s
time for a change.

See if any 2.0l are being broken locally, and if the cats are good ;)

Also, check the warranty on the pattern cats - maybe they should be replaced under warranty, as most exhausts are 2yr warranty
