Ah yes, how to get free calls by tapping the rest bar. Happy days. ::)

Easy to spot it being done in the exchange, have seen an operative leg it around a strowger to pull the plug

In the days of make and break dials, it made no difference whether you tapped out the number on the handset switch or not, you'd still have to pay.
