Newbie Welcome Area / Glad to be back!
« on: 09 April 2013, 22:14:51 »
This is more a re-acquaintance really.
I don’t think I’ve been on this forum for 3 or 4 years, since I got rid of my last barge.
Was trawling a remembered how much time I used to spend on here.
Still recognise a few of the names, and glad to see that so many barges are still on the go.
I think I’ll try to spend a bit more time on here, if it’s okay with you guys, although I don’t even drive a motor with a griffin on the front any more.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Sat Nav .........Hmmmm!
« on: 04 June 2007, 07:10:06 »
Right a question for the experts.   ;D

Is there any truth in the rumours that Stanav systems with the Sirf star III chipset, are less likely to suffer with respect to signal strength, through these coated windscreens?

Thanks chaps!

Omega General Help / Air Con - A quick question
« on: 31 May 2007, 17:42:32 »
Right, as a stop gap measrure I am going to use on of these new fangled DIY air con refil cans (you know, the sort you get from Halfrauds).  :-[  :-/

My question is this : having a quick look under bonnet there appears to be 2 schrader valves : a high level one and a low level one ( i presume one is to and other is from the unit). Which one do I use to refill.

I am giving myself another couple of months to decide if the barge is staying with me or not, and as I am pretty sure that it's never had a A/C refill in it's 8 year life, this should give me some time to make my decision.

Cheers boys & girls
Ross

Omega General Help / Chirpy alam problem!
« on: 11 February 2007, 14:20:25 »
Right chaps, I think this is the first time I’ve written an essay in this section of the forum, so here goes.
Travelled back up North from Edinburgh last night through some of the worst conditions I have travelled in for a long time. The barge was fine. We just followed the snow plough in convoy. Some heavy rain down in Perthshire and then blizzard conditions about half way home.
Came back down the hill into Inverness and the friggin loud chirpy alarm starts going off. So pulled over stopped the engine, removed key, then replaced key started the engine again and drove off fine. Travelled around 15 miles through country to next town, all still well. Started to decelerate into 40 limit and the alarm starts going off again. So stopped – started all over again and it drive fine again till I reach my home town (around 10 miles this time), started to decelerate and off it goes again. WTF.  :-[  :'(

Whilst all this was going on it was driving fine with no dash lights or anything else apart from the high pitched chirpy alarm noise.

Please bear in mind that it had been a long day and it was nearly midnight when all this was happening, so Sammy the sledge would have been used if necessary. >:(

If you want my thoughts, something has gotten wet under the bonnet somewhere, and it doesn’t like it.
If so what could it be?
If not then what do you think might be cause this?

Any ideas gratefully received!

General Discussion Area / The end of an era!
« on: 11 September 2007, 17:03:59 »
Right chaps and end of an era is upon me! :-[ :'( :-X

The Omega is going on Thursday, and I’m picking up a heavy oil burner, because I need something that will get more than 26 mile to the gallon.

Don’t get me wrong, I have enjoyed every last minute of Omega ownership, especially the current Elite, but she has now got to the stage where she needs a fair amount of T.L.C. to keep her roadworthy. As I am not very mechanically sound she has had to go and I have taken the opportunity to purchase something a bit easier on the wallet at the pumps.

You guys have made this the best forum I have ever experienced on this crazy int-web thingy, and although I have not be a regular contributor for a while, and will not longer be an Omega  owner, I will be lurking every now and again, and maybe even chipping in.

Good luck to one and all of you, because you are what make this place! :y  :y  :y

Somethings gone amiss TheBoy.   :P

I’m not expecting a result in our favour, although it would be nice, but this is one of the best family days out on 6 nation’s calendar. The Scotland / Wales (no offence meant to any of the other nations), game always seems to have such great spirit both on and off the pitch. :y

It’s just a shame I have to travel down and back on the same day. :'(

Mini jocular meet anyone? ;D

General Discussion Area / All the best for the festive period!
« on: 24 December 2006, 20:49:48 »
Well chaps I haven't been on here much lately, priorities have changed.

The kids are now tucked up in bed waiting for the Big Man to arrive with copious gifts for all.
Just thought I would give a shout to you all.

Have a very merry Xmas and a happy new year. [smiley=beer.gif] [smiley=beer.gif]

I should be online every now and again but will be more of a lurker than a contributor (not that I ever was a contributor).

General Discussion Area / Just fixed the f**king crack of doom.
« on: 29 July 2006, 12:09:57 »
Bit of a story but bear with me.
Bought the Elite 18 months ago with the crack of doom attached, and took it to the Vx main dealer garage, who the old boy before me had been having it serviced since new.
They gave me a quote of around £175, including parts welding painting etc. I walked away thinking one day I'll do the darn thing myself.
Since that day I have since found you guys albeit at the other place, and the fix for the crack of doom.
Well about 4 weeks ago I thought right I'll get the bits and fix it. So went to main dealer to get parts, guess what non stock item (well I am in the wilds of the north). Took 3 weeks to get 2 screws, 2 plates, and 1 bush. Went to sort it this morning and started to strip it down.
Guess what .......... there was no rather plastic bush in the existing mechanism.
So inserted plastic bush greased up and put back together, with no crack of doom.
Yippee!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cost .......... 1 plastic bush, a wee bit of grease, and 10 minutes of my time.

The look on my face after waiting 18 months to do it........ priceless.
