Xenon Bulb Replacement ?
« on: 08 November 2009, 09:01:11 »

Ive tried a search....

One of the front Xenons "seems" to have been replaced by a nasty  :( "normal" bulb.....

Any advice on where and what to sort as a replacement and is it an easy fit.

Many thanks in advance.

CDX should have Xenons as standard... is the output a different colour / range on either side?

Yes Tunnie, the offside is what looks to me to be an ordinary light, orangy type....but the headlights themselves are the original so wondered wether someone has simply made an error in bulb replacement or could source the correct one at the time ?

Yes I think I mean HID bulb....sorry its all a bit new to me...

Yup. Although technically Xenons/HIDs are different, they are referred to as the same thing.

HID bulbs are quite a bit more pricey than standard Halogen, thats prob why someone put a standard one in.

Hopefully someone who has upgraded theirs to a brighter bulb might come along and recommend a replacement pair  :y

Main beams are standard bulbs, dipped beam are HID`s, which bulb is it. Didn`t think a "standard" bulb would fit the HID holder :-/

Crikey its becoming quite technical now  ;)

All I know is that driving back last evening and arriving home on "normal" headlight setting, the nearside shone as Id expect to shine (I have an X5 with Xenons so can only compare with that) BUT th offside was not the bright crisp white Xenon light but a dull orangy type....maybe the main beam HID light has gone and the offside is simply showing the sidelight bulb do we think ???

sounds like your dipped HID bulb has blown or been replaced with some cheapo crapo one.

What does it look like if you turn lights on to dipped (normal) at night, parked and look at them? Could be one side has blown and its just the side light working?

Main beams are NOT HID`s. If, on dipped beam, one of the bulbs is yellow/pinkish, it`s on the way out.

I think the theory of bulb out/on its way out sounds about right....am I better off replacing both bulbs at once or shall I replace the "dodgy" one ? and any reccomendations of type etc before I pop down to Mr Halfords  :)

Well (in my opinion) i would replace both at the same time. This will obviously cost more, but since winter is here it would be worth doing so.
