General Discussion Area / The Farmer's Daughters
« on: 11 October 2008, 15:16:02 »
A farmer had 3 beautiful daughters who were getting ready to go out on dates.

The first beau came to the door and said, "I''m Eddie, I''m here to pick up Betty. We''re going for spaghetti, is she ready?"
And off he went with the first daughter.

The second beau came to the door and said, "I''m Joe, I''m here to pick up Flo to take her to the show. Is she ready to go?"
And off he went with the second daughter.

The third beau came to the door and said to the farmer. "Hello, my name is Chuck..."

The farmer shot Chuck.

General Discussion Area / Query re DVLA personalised registrations
« on: 07 October 2008, 15:03:10 »
Just wondering if someone has more info about this...

I was thinking of getting a personalised registration for my daughter who is learning to drive, but has no car (yet...).

Can I buy it from the DVLA and keep it without a car, or do I have to have it registered to a specific car?

If the latter, do I have to use the personalised plate once registered, or can I register it to my car but keep using the original one that came with the vehicle?

Thank you in advance....  :)

If you needed to know your car's VIN / chassis number in a hurry, and you don't have the log book handy, try typing-in the registration mark in this site:

General Discussion Area / Cyclist crash - legal questions
« on: 25 June 2008, 10:28:36 »
My plumber had a mishap this morning, as he parked his car (legally) in front of our flat and opened the driver's door, a cyclist passing by at some speed crashed into the open door and flew of his bike.

The cyclist was in pain and was taken to hospital by ambulance, but it does not seem that he was seriously injured (hopefully).

1. From the legal/insurance point of view, does anyone know who's fault it is...?

2. There is a cyclist lane marked on the road between the parked cars and the main part of the road, does this make a difference to the legal responsibility?

3. The plumber was parked with the engine switched-off while this happened, if it is found to be his fault will this be considered a driving offence, i.e. something you can get points on your license for (and potentially even a ban in serious cases), of is it just a 'simple' case of causing damage or harm which is not driving-related? I would think the latter, after all this could happened to a passenger...

General Discussion Area / We need more Newbies....
« on: 31 July 2006, 17:14:57 »
There are people out there that supposedly know how to get a website to come-up on top of the list when searching with Google or Yahoo (or MSN etc). Have you given some thought to this? Does anybody have any advice as to how to do this? I think most of us found the OTHER site using a search engine, and this is how newbies will find us....

General Discussion Area / Taxed for being green
« on: 20 May 2008, 17:06:23 »
According to Car Mechanics Magazine, it seems that the Treasury are set to increase the tax burden on diesel company cars because due to lower emissions by modern diesel engines the tax revenue has come down, so the Treasury need to increase the tax to ensure that the same level of revenue is maintained... just in case you thought that any of the so-called 'green' taxes have anything to do with the environment. They do not. But we knew this all along...

I would appreciate some help from a Mondeo owner... I am abroad driving a Ford Mondeo 2007 (old shape, I believe it is Mk II). It has a 4-cyl petrol engine, not sure about the size (1.8?).

The problem is that the cigarette lighter does not work, i.e. no power to the socket, so my satnav is out of action... I had a look at the fuse box in the engine compartment, but none of the symbols looks like a cigi lighter...

If anyone has a Mondeo, I would appreciate it you could look it up in the owners manual and let me know which fuse number I should be looking at?

Many thanks.

Discuss... with disgust  >:(

Sorry for the pun  :)

OK, so he refused to give his name and address to the Council Warden, and this is this technically an offence.... but surely the Police has better things to do than assist Council Wardens chasing alleged litterers...?

There is no Police available in my area to chase the hoodies who broke into my wife's car twice, both times in broad day light.  >:(
