Fibre speed gradually dropped
« on: 12 November 2018, 21:38:16 »

Ive had Infinity 2 since it became available, always used to get about 72mb download speed.

No great issue, but its gradually dropped over a year or 2 and is now 52mb, below the handback speed.

Anyway, spoke to BT about a year ago when I first noticed, but they wouldnt do anything, this time they acknowledged a problem presumably as the magic threshold has now been crossed.

Got them coming out on Thursday, be interesting to see what they do, Pound to 1p, the swap my 'infinity' master socket for the newest generation, Perform a DLM reset, wonder what else.they will find?

I'm guessing more local take-up has gradually increased either contention or crosstalk between the lines.

I'm fibre to the box, copper to the house and get 76mb's.

About 2 years ago I started losing broadband, an Openreach guy came out and discovered the 'manhole' in the front garden was full of water, had to lend him an old saucepan to bail it out. He then re-wired it to the house.

Haven't had a problem since.

And crosstalk, not contention,as both BT and OR try to run with plenty of capacity

Be interesting to see what, if anything they do then as handback threshold breached.

Surely if the problem is your copper (most likely, according to TB), that won't help your speeds any?

The move is nothing to do with speeds, only price and service

Theyve been and reterminated the connection at the front of the house, and replaced the master socket...

Ive gained 3mb so far!  Not quite what I was hoping for, but better than nowt.

Said the line was perfect and speeds may yet creep up.

Ping speed is about 1/3 of what it was too!
