Wheel refurbishment thoughts...
« on: 22 April 2020, 16:08:18 »

The wheels on the Barge are pretty rough... They were originally lacquered/polished, but still nothing special.

They need refurbishing, and thinking of getting the wheel face painted/powder coated with polished rims...

Would body colour be a bad choice? Shall add a poll.

I'd just take dark blue and anthracite out of the poll. People will only vote for them for a laugh.

Personally I would rub them down, paint them silver and give them a couple of coats of lacquer.
Depends on your current disposable cash and personal taste though.

that's what i'd do as well
low cost option and you can touch up any damage if required
spending £300 on the cosmetics of wheels of a car you don't know yet seems excessive

Thinking ahead ;)

I would quite like a set of genuine AMG monoblocks, but by the time you put tyres on, they're nearly a months pay... So that's not happening any time soon ::)

Is the car actually worth that? Wheels and tyres worth more than the car? Sounds like an omega with sports stars.

As an off the wall idea, keep the wheels, ditch everything they attach too.[/hatred of Merc]

The Monoblocks would be an investment and would be kept for the next car(s)  ;)

I had a plan in place to get this up and running, fresh mot and use my overtime to save and chop it against a tidy W140 S Class as my long term car. Unfortunately, after Batflu, electrical buggery and no overtime since early March, that's not going to happen. So this will be around for a bit longer, hence spending a bit more time and effort on it.  :y

Let's be honest, a nice set of wheels totally transforms a car. Any car, no matter what it is, looks so much better with big wide boots on. A base model can look top spec with big wide wheels on.  :y

As for the poll, can I vote twice, once for the upgrade to Mono's and failing that I'll vote for Silver.  :y

I've gone smoke silver/gunmetal but I'd lean more towards the silver side than gunmetal as I think that may look too dark.

Personally I think those are the worst type of wheel MB supplied on a Merc  change them completely when you can afford to.
