General Discussion Area / any tv engineers here please
« on: 08 March 2018, 14:42:22 »
for anyone who knows the panasonic tx-p50xt50 and similar styles they suffer from the u203 chip causing a loss of power. i oredered a fan6755u to replace it and found the exact same chip already in there.a fairchild one.   replaced it anyway and put set back together. all fired up fine and worked all evening without issue.next morning tv was dead.i always turn mains off at night and dont leave anything on standby.
ordered another fan chip just incase the other was faulty and will fit it when it comes.
questions i have are
what does this chip actually control and can it be bypassed ? .
can you bypass the power button (is it just a flip fliop ? )
can i run an additional 5v stby to this circuit?
anything else to check/ replace ?
many thanks.

General Car Chat / NVH
« on: 11 July 2017, 16:56:41 »
hi. heres a question for you. ive posted this on a few other forums to compare what answers i get though it doesnt realy apply to omegas. take one standard saloon car from say the seventies and once its all rust free and wayoyled up it looks good and hopefully will remain that way for years to come.each year you go underneath and check everywhere thoroughly and repair / re underseal as necesarry if required. then maybee every 5 years or so one extra coat of waxoyl to make it all look even again. (i say waxoyl but can be the sealer of your choice ,dinitrol, whatever, etc)now i have done this for the last 30 years to my cars and have noticed that they are all very gradually getting noisier .aside from the fact that you are in theory putting more sound deadening on you are also building up the thickness of the panels/floor and i suppose lowering the natural resonant frequency and making the car feel louder at low frequencies.(hard to explain, boomier, thumpier !for want of better descriptions!)i have read many a website on this subject and realise it is a big thing that manufacturers spend millions to get right on new cars and a much misunderstood and underrated subject. so aside from removing all my years of protection and appliying just one layer like it was before originally .has anyone any suggestions/ experience of this type of thing.

« on: 22 June 2017, 14:09:59 »
hi all. as some may know i have been looking for some cloth seats to replace the leather in mine .am i right in assuming if the new seats come from a cd model they will still be plug and play(less passenger seat height adjuster)no changes between a 2000 model year and a 2003 with ref to putting them straight in / not touching airbags/ battery disconnected etc.thanks

Omega General Help / Elite suspension
« on: 29 May 2017, 15:56:31 »
Hi .i keep reading about how the elite suspension is nice and soft compared to the other models. Mine is a 2003 cdx in standard spec with standard gm dampers and front springs(rears are new kyb thou ) .what are the differences if any that make the elite softer ? . I personally thought it would have only been the mv6 models that would have a different setup ? ??

Omega General Help / Rear subframe bushes
« on: 14 April 2017, 16:13:28 »
Just passing on some information and observations when replacing my bushes last week.after replacing these bushes and due to the rear springs acting on the subframe causing it to move backwards .this causes you to need to lever the axle forward enough again to get the bolts back in.once it's all back together you invariably will end up with the entire subframe a distance equal on both sides maybe but further back than ideal.causing undue strain on the rear u mounts which are prone to failure anyway.mine were very noticeably sticking out of the back than they should ,confirmed by undoing the bolts and even at the end of the small tolerance available too far out. So I decided to shim the bores of the donut bushes to centralise the bolts.3 lengths of 15mm copper pipe opened up worked a treat .re assembled and much better ,less strain on rear mounts but still not perfect.due to movement of the captive nut and lots of clearance to chassis.so final adjustment obtained by removing rear springs to make alignment easy(much much easier) ,finding a thin(same as or less then chassis metal thickness)that fits around bolt hole and chassis hole to remove rest of movement.held in place with a piece of adhesive aluminium duct tape.all back together and no strain on rear mounts. They even bolt up central to their slot .

Omega General Help / Auto gearchange
« on: 29 March 2017, 14:46:14 »
Just a thought .ive never been happy with the revs thats my 2003 2.6 changes at.when i bought it the revs went up to almost 4k before changing. And driving up roads at 30mph stayed in 3rd most of the time. I purchased a used gearbox ecu to try. Much better so after reading on here it seems my new ecu could be an original software version and my original was an updated one. However even though its better its still not a patch on my brothers 2.5 that changes up nice and early how i like it. Nearly as good as the old 3 speed gm in my carlton 2.2 which is purely hydraulic not electronic.so .my question is ? ?. What would happen if i fitted a different ecu ,say from a 2.2 or 3.2  or even a 2.5 .would it actually work or would it throw any codes . Or are there anywhere that can do custom maps .i drive the car as a cruiser and never rev it above 4k max .yes i know what your thinking. !. Put my bl,,,,y foot down and see its potential but each to their own! .

General Discussion Area / Omega coupe
« on: 11 March 2017, 19:02:33 »
I was wondering if anyone has built a 2 door version of the omega maybe using Monaro parts.how similar are they I wonder. Comparing this idea to a tried and trusted similar idea on the manta site where many people have built a mancona .opel manta coupe or hatch (or cav for that matter) but with a ascona front end. The google images picture of the silver b coupe does look 'right' for want of a better description.

General Car Chat / Double skin exhaust
« on: 25 February 2017, 11:49:43 »
Just out of curiosity has anyone double skinned an exhaust box ? I thought about heat tape wrapping or heat matt the rear exhaust box and then a layer of galv sheet around it. Would this make any difference ? . .?.this is after reading about original gm units which were double skinned. Never been happy with the rear box on mine.tried two different makes on and experimented with tip length but think it could be better .any ideas
