Hi folks

Thought I'd give the old girl a cleanup yesterday as she will sell on ebay this Thursday :'(. It was just a damp cloth over all surfaces.

This morning I took her out for a quick spin. Turned on the sidelights, there was a funny buzzing sound from the dash area and the courtesy light came on. Turned lights off.
Stopped car and restarted. No buzzing sound but the courtesy light stays on and the battery is going to run down.

It is possible that the courtesy light had been on all night as the starter was a bit sluggish. Light switch has always been a bit iffy in as much as you have to make sure it is well pushed in. I'm pushing it in a far as I can but the lights are staying on.

Charging my old laptop to see if there are any codes. Just wondering if anyone here has any thoughts?...Other than her being upset that I'm selling her :'(

Omega General Help / steering rack or front wheel bearing problem?
« on: 28 November 2017, 19:18:33 »
Getting a nasty wobble/rumble when I take a left hand corner. Jacked the driver front and there is movement 3-9 o'clock. This isn't happening on the passenger side. Am I right in thinking that as left and right steering components are connected that this rules out steering rack problems?
On this basis I was looking at the guide for replacing the wheel bearing. However, the guide appears to be missing the part about how to actually remove the bearing. It goes from removing the caliper straight to putting the new part on.
Additionally, when I search for replacement front wheel bearing for the car I get results showing just the bearing and others showing the hub assembly. Is this because if you have the tools to remove the bearing the hub is reusable?  ???

Omega General Help / Cam cover seal renewal
« on: 10 October 2017, 18:04:32 »
Halfway through this job. Just wondering: Should I put a smear of the sealant on the corresponding area of the cover that goes through 90 deg?
Also, a tip for when you take the covers off. Check that you can account for all the o-rings. Mine had gone hard and some dropped out of the cover as I removed it. One fell down next to a spark plug and another hid down by a cam lobe. Not sure what the consequences might have been. :(

Omega General Help / Small idle issue after plug change
« on: 30 September 2017, 20:39:08 »
Hi folks

Changed the plugs on my 3.2 lpg estate today. About 3 years ago I put bosch plugs in, but they were single electrode. Recently the idle has been slightly uneven, both at start up and when warm, hence the change. There was a bit of oil in the wells which I am not entirely surprised about. Will look to do the cam gaskets soon. Probably damaged when the car was converted to LPG a while ago.

I put NGK triple electrodes in. Good price on CP4L. ca £19 all in.

However, the uneven idle appears to be even worse now at start up. It idles fine, then revs up a bit, goes back to fine, then revs up again etc. When the car switched into LPG I noticed the idle seemed alot smoother.

Haven't yet taken the car for a run to see how she behaves but I was wondering if anyone had any initial thoughts?

Omega General Help / Water under front passenger mat
« on: 12 September 2017, 17:19:10 »
Hi folks.

An issue that has never really gone away, and seems to be getting worse. Is there any other way the water can be getting in as the scuttle is definately not blocked?

Water seems to be getting in a foot or so above the passenger footwell on the same level as the bottom of the glovebox. Pulling back the carpet there is a roundish piece of foam, separate and above the main floor foam, that is soaking wet. Water is then dripping from here to soak the passenger footwell. I am thinking that somehow water is not flowing into the scuttle properly and diverting off around the back of the airbox in the scuttle area.

Last chance for the old girl.

I have been having problems starting the car on petrol but can hard start on gas. I have tested the purple relays which both seem to be working fine. Ie. continuity across the small spades and good closure on supplying 12v to create continuity across the large spades.
I have fitted a new fuel pump as RAC told me that was the issue. However, the car still refuses to start.
I have disconnected at fuel feed manifold, I am assuming the right hand larger pipe is the feed? On crank over no petrol is coming out. The voltage at the pump is about 9.5v on crank over. Is this correct? If so then i guess the new pump is faulty?

Hi folks wondering if anyone can help with the above.

Had been using the car so it was hot. I had switched engine off, but when I tried to restart the car it turned over but wouldn't start. I played around with the starter motor turning and switching between petrol and gas and the car finally started. I think I may have managed to start it on gas. The car ran fine. As soon as I turned it off it wouldn't start again.

Have used "My Naff Code Reader" on it and the following codes showed.

P0650 (4) unknown present
P0430 (1) unknown present
P0420 (1) unknown not present
P1612 (0) unknown not present

cleared faults and attempted to start again with no luck.

P0650 showed up again.

This is listed as:

P0650 Malfunction Indicator (MI) Control Circuit High Instrument
P0650 Malfunction Indicator (MI) Control Circuit Low Instrument
P0650 Malfunction Indicator (MI) Control Circuit Open Instrument

Anyone know what this is?

Cheers

Omega General Help / Starter motor issue
« on: 03 November 2016, 20:11:12 »
Having a starter issue: On a number of occasions recently I have turned the ignition only for nothing to happen. If I continue to try and start it has so far eventually kicked in. Is the starter on the way out or is there a way I can overhaul it?

Omega General Help / LPG stag 300-6 plus software
« on: 11 June 2016, 14:07:35 »
Hi folks

Just wondering if anyone knows the correct software download for the above set up? I have downloaded 6.0.0.73 diagnostic program but it doesn't give the option of 6 cylinders. The program tells me I need to load newer software when I try to connect with the LPG controller. No reply from AC STAG yet to advise what I need.

Omega General Help / Fault codes
« on: 10 June 2016, 10:20:54 »
Noticed the car is a just a little lumpy on tickover. Looked at fault codes for 3.2 :
P0430 catalyst system efficiency below threshold bank 2
P0650 malfunction indicator circuit low/open instrument
P0170 fuel trim malfunction bank 1

cleared codes and restarted engine.

P0650 showing again.

Anyone know how to rectify this?

Omega General Help / New LPG injectors needed
« on: 18 May 2016, 07:28:31 »
Have had an issue with the Stag AC LPG side of my car for a while. I manually change over to gas after a mile or so as in auto mode it seems to change over too quickly. The system was installed by Profess Autogas and I am not sure they plumbed in the water heater side of things very well. This method seemed to work well for a while after I acquired the car.
However, I soon started having issues where the car switched back to petrol and the green light on the switch over would blink rapidly. (More rapidly than it does prior to switching from petrol to gas) I am assuming this is the gas ecu saying there is a fault? Sometimes I can get the car to run back in gas for a while by constantly switching back and forth between petrol and gas.
Profess tried to fix the problem saying initially there was a sensor issue and then that the injectors needed replacing after that didn't cure the problem. I spent quite a bit with them and they wanted over £250 to change the injectors. I don't do much mileage and that would buy quite a bit of petrol before I broke even. In any case I think profess are trying to rip me off as the injectors are cheap Valtec.
My main question is can I change the injectors over myself or do I need the diagnostic software to get the gas delivery right?

Omega General Help / Estate rear centre seat belt MOT failure
« on: 13 May 2016, 22:15:30 »
A couple of weeks ago my car failed on some wheel arch corrosion and the above which was jammed and wouldn't allow any belt out. Just want to say how good the maintenance guide regarding this issue is. I think the main reason that the belt was jamming was the incline ball bearing mechanism. I couldn't get this to work properly by trying to bend the small plastic clip that actuates the lock up. So I just removed it completely along with the cable lock. Couldn't see what real function these two devices serve other than to jam up eventually. Hoping the old girl will go through the retest tomorrow :y
