General Car Chat / Re: do we have any jetronic LE2 experts please ?
« on: 22 January 2024, 17:16:48 »
hi stu and thankyou very much for your detailed reply and obvious time spent researching as well.
the working one which is perfect and the one that went recently faulty have both been studied very carefully .one was for a manual and one was for an auto (no's 0.......017 and 018).both do identical functions except hold a different idle speed.
i spent a few evenings looking for differences in the two and found 4 resistors different to each unit. i swapped these from unit to unit and also replaced the electrolytics in the good unit too.
so far i can confirm that the resistor swap worked. the manual ecu now holds auto idle speed and vise versa and both units ( including the faulty one ) are working ok so far. i did resolder loads of joints even thou they looked ok but as you know some cold joints are not always visible.

pm sent too .cheers.

yes totally agree
financial value vs value to you.
but youd be hard pressed to find any modern replacement thats as nice in many respects to swap it with !

as i have  stated on here many times and at risk of a "telling off " from the omega boses on here , omegas do not ever rot to the stage of being unrepairable but its the fact that if an owner cannot do there own repairs and have to take it to a garage where the excessive prices will lead to many a car being scrapped. that is the real world reality i do understand.
at the end of the day its money vs end product and the owners choice.
However
if you can weld ( or know someone who will help ) then its not all bad news .
watch a few "yorkshire car restoration" videos on youtube and you will be hooked .

Omega General Help / Re: Now what?
« on: 12 January 2024, 23:02:27 »
as mentioned above by mr dg      external interference can definately be a problem.
mine unlocks/ locks fine everywhere i go even from a distance except in my work carpark. you have to hold the remote to the drivers window to make it work. theres a new mobile mast a few ysrds away !

or do you mean the little metal ones ?    i would imagine they could easily be home made ( or even not needed at all ? ? )

silly question but do the remotes flash red when tried. if not then you know its most likely a fault in them . usually battery holder or microswitches.( and does the boot release work everytime .? )

following with interest !
for the £7 spent its worth an evenings fun swapping the caps and seeing what happens.  i assume ( other than esr testing ) they had bulged tops which is what led you to them in the first place.

this is true.
plus leaving the proper oil filler tube in place means that any emulsification tends to just collect in this tube and can be easily cleaned rather than it building up under the cam covers.

deox-c from bilthamber works very well . 1 litre of powder you dissolve in  up to 7 litres of water to create a soaking bath . around £15 last time i got some .
works on metal without affecting rubber , paint , wood etc
