General Car Chat / Re: Vectra 1.8 starter will not turn
« on: 11 May 2020, 19:15:44 »
as you mentioned terry ,that thin wire should go live in crank position so join a wire onto it and try it on the battery + to prove starter is ok at least .then you need to trace wire back to key .
as mentioned  is it an auto ?

We are just going to carry on as we have done since March 21st , we are quite capable of acting sensibly & responsibly to get through this . No mention of the idiots who were " partying in the parks" yesterday as far as I am concerned we have not all "pulled together" Get the army out & sort the idiots out.

absolutely !
its a pity that you cannot report offenders anonymously too as we most likely all know someone. the sooner everyone takes notice the sooner it will be over .

exactly. its not boris's fault he didnt cause the virus but is trying to help us get through this. we are all taking notice of what we are supposed to be doing and not doing .90% of us anyway but im sure we all know of many people who dont seem to actually give a ***
dont those people realise that its them making it last longer  but they wont be the ones who end up getting sick. sods law !
i for one cannot visit any of my family and even my partner doesnt live with me yet so its hard but we are keeping to the rules.
at least we all have plenty of car time to get stuff done !

Omega General Help / Re: Alloy wheel painting
« on: 09 May 2020, 19:20:56 »
on mine they were badly marked and bits of the coating was coming off.i rubbed them with panel wipe and it eventually removed the top coat of whatever it is.it did take ages however so i cannot remember wether t cut ( or the polish of your choice) was faster ?
other people may have some suggestions too but that worked for me

if youre talking about the plastic covers on the doors that pull open be very very carefull.i wouldnt put a heat gun near them but there may be a trick im missing here. on mine they were quite bad (along with various other plastics that have the soft coating on and i just removed mine with panel wipe and t cut.a very long job but you end up with brand new looking but shiny black / grey pieces.on mine the gear surround was particularly bad and now looks great back to its base shiny black.
obviously each to their own on this

Omega General Help / Re: Idler Arm part question
« on: 19 April 2020, 18:38:41 »
if it was tight i was going to suggest cutting a groove in the surrounding arm to releive the tension but you have beaten me to it and already got it out.at least the proper omega arm will now have good quality oem bush and should last a fair while. this is how i did mine 5 years ago and all is still well as i expected

yes but the bush will be a good quality one. the aftermarket ones appear to not last long

still a better bet if wrong length than a non gm aftermarket because the bush will be good quality and fit your old arm.i beleive the bush size / diameter etc is the same

deox gell is excellent but then so is oxalic acid which is basically the same thing and a lot cheaper. i also use a small sandblaster gus for localised areas but like you said cut of is the perfect solution as most of the rust is usually on the other side of what you actually see

thats great. and after owning a car for that long you will know it inside out. like part of the family that you will keep indefinately.
my brother has had his for 15 years ,me only 5 unfortunately although ive owned one of my cars 34 years !.no doubt there will be some other long time owners of the same car on here too !

which theoretically shouldnt happen even on a v6 as the bolt holes have a metal sleeve in them anyway and common sense should prevail but obviously some buffoon with a heavy hand can always damage anything !   lol
