General Car Chat / MG TF
« on: 17 May 2011, 18:37:02 »
I would like to upgrade my daughter's TF to twin horns. Does anyone know if the Rover 200/400 horns are the same?

General Car Chat / 3.2 Elite
« on: 23 May 2011, 11:10:34 »
Met H12DVY in Brum yesterday and picked up my new - and it is like new - Elite. Thanks very much Dave for keeping this car in such superb condition. I thoroughly enjoyed my drive home, and look forward to many (no comments about my age!) years of enjoyable driving.

Thanks again. :y :y :y

General Car Chat / Eternal silencer
« on: 17 May 2011, 09:12:17 »
I recently fitted a rear box, on my TD, purchased on line from Eternal which are well spoken of here. Unfortunately either the front or rear mounting bars appear to have been welded in the incorrect position, such that when fitted, with a new mounting kit, the bars rattle against the chassis or car mounted bars. I have had it off twice to bend the bars to improve the mounting. Not completely satisfactorily as it still rattles occasionally, so I will be replacing it again with another make.

To be fair to Eternal, they have agreed to refund the purchase price ( only about £30), but I would have preferred a replacement so that I could send this back for inspection. :(

General Car Chat / Powerflex bushes.
« on: 20 March 2011, 17:27:18 »
I've just fitted Powerflex bushes to my front wishbones, using Turk's very useful video as a guide, also new Lemforder droplinks. The car feels much more positive now, and quieter. The droplinks took longer than replacing the bushes, which really was very simple. :y

I saw a very nice 52 plate Omega Sport today. I assume this is the MV6?

General Car Chat / Estate rear wiper

Has anyone modified the wiper to give a faster intermittent wipe, or even a continuous wipe when using the screenwasher?

I just drove my daughter's TF about 15 miles, and that is far enough. Noisy, too firm, no room for me at 6'4". She can keep it! :P

Edit, Oh yes, and a manual box. Aaaarggghhh! >:(

General Car Chat / Headlamp bulbs
« on: 14 January 2011, 17:32:00 »
I've just replaced all 4 headlamp bulbs with Nightbreakers, I can't remember ever changing any of these in the 12 years  I've had the car.

I took the battery off for better access, but has anyone changed the LH ones, particularly the main beam bulb, without taking the battery off?

While changing the bulbs, I noticed slight play in the reflectors on both sides, is this normal? :-? :y

General Car Chat / Tyre fitting
« on: 02 December 2010, 11:15:28 »
I have been told this week by a garage owner that in future only tyres supplied by the tyre fitting firm may be fitted. (Sounds convoluted, I hope you know what I mean.) If true, this means I will no longer be able to buy my tyres on line. Has anyone any knowledge of this? Also it would seem to make nonsense of having a puncture repaired.

General Car Chat / Annoyances with your Omega
« on: 05 November 2010, 19:07:56 »
After 11 years, there is still only one thing that niggles me, and it is the position of the two small horn buttons, which are never in the right place when you want to shout at idiots.

Does anyone agree? Or have you got your own pet niggles? :y

General Car Chat / Mytyres
« on: 07 November 2010, 10:06:52 »
For the last few years I have been completely satisfied buying tyres on line, which invariably arrived within four or five days. Recently I bought two from Mytyres for SWMBO's Jazz, delivery date was not until 14 days after purchase, with differing excuses offered.

Has anyone else had problems recently with this company?

Well, just starting on the MG now, and the battery won't hold charge, definitely shot. While dormant the current drain is 35ma, does this sound reasonable? Seems a bit high for a relatively small car and battery. No lid lights on etc.

General Car Chat / 4X4
« on: 03 October 2010, 19:15:03 »
After last winter I posted for info on used Range Rovers, I've now had to downgrade my ambitions, and am looking for a good 4X4 up to £2500, maybe a Discovery or Jeep. Any suggestions? TIA :y

I've just taken charge of my daughter's TF, 20,000 miles in 8 years as a second car. I shall be giving it some TLC, but does anyone know of any particular issues I should be aware of? :y

General Car Chat / Possible rip-off merchants
« on: 18 September 2010, 22:51:28 »
A dear friend, a single lady of a certain age, has had a 7 yr old Pug 307. The sun roof stuck in the tilt open position, takes it to the garage, gets a phone call ' Very bad news I'm afraid, the motor has failed,  and can't be changed on its own. The whole sun roof has to be replaced at a cost of £1622 plus labour plus VAT' My friend said, 'Just wind it shut and I'll forget about it.' 'Can't do that either' they say. She traded it in elsewhere, and got about the same price for it as the purported repair bill.

I cannot believe this is true, however before ranting at the garage, has anyone here experience of these sun roofs?  I am quite sure, at the least, that they can be closed if the motor fails. :-/ :-/ :-/
