Here are a few pics which might be useful.

The last picture shows how you align the switch before tightening up the bolts (note, this should be done once its on the box, the picture was taken like this just for clarity)

1.      Put the car in neutral.
2.      Remove the selector lever from the mode switch.
3.      Remove the cover.
4.      Loosen the two 10 mm. mounting screws.
5.      By rotating the mode switch you can line up the slot in the mode switch housing with the selector shaft bushing.
6.      Insert a 2,4 mm punch (3/32 in) in the slot.
7.      Tighten the two 10 mm. screws.

Using a multi meter.

1.      Put the car in neutral.
2.      Disconnect the mode switch connector. It’s located in front of the air filter box and it’s the biggest of the three you’ll find there. (black).
3.      Connect a multi meter set to resistance between terminals 1 and 4.
4.      Loosen the two mounting screws of the mode switch and find the range of electrical contact by turning the entire mode switch.
5.      Then fix the mode switch to the middle of that range and tighten the two mounting screws.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Key Programming
« on: 22 April 2011, 22:27:20 »
Finally got around to buying a new horseshoe key and 3 button fob for my Omega.

I am now ready to have the key programmed and the firmware update in the slushbox and climate control.

The question is: do I take a chance and entrust the job to the local main dealer? my preference would be to meet up with an OOF expert to have the job done properly but I think the nearest to me is Kevin Wood (and he's a long way from Cornwall).

After several months driving around with a CCR2006 and BOSE amp and speakers I finally got around to taking them out and fitting my Blaupunkt headunit.

I removed the BOSE amp and 6 speakers and fitted 4 standard 4 Ohm speakers from an Omega being broken by a forum member.

On the plus side I now have a load more space in the boot and can play MP3s and CDRs and receive DAB radio.

My problem is that if I turn the volume up now I seem to have lost the punch that came through having the BOSE amp and speakers.

My headunit is a DAB53 with a claimed output of 4x25w sine to DIN 45 324 (or 4x45w max power).

What I want to know is whether I can gain a significant improvement by changing the speakers? or maybe my headunit is the limiting factor :-/

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Another BOSE question
« on: 16 March 2010, 19:22:29 »
In order to fit an aftermarket headunit I have been advised that I should take the BOSE amp out of the equation by disconnecting a plug behind the drivers side kick panel and using a dummy plug to link the headunit ouputs to the door speaker loom.

Is this the plug? I assume that the BOSE plug is sitting on the front of the alarm/locking module.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Bose amplifier removal.
« on: 03 February 2010, 20:37:13 »
Has anybody done this recently?

I seem to be making the 500 mile round trip to London on a weekly basis at the moment, the CCR2006 + Bose is certainly loud enough but 4 cd's get repetitive and I miss my Blaupunkt DAB/MP3 head unit.

I have been advised not to try driving the Bose amplifier from the my Blaupunkt head unit so I have bought some used 4 Ohm Omega speakers to suit the Blaupunkt. I want to be able to return everything to factory so I intend to link out the Bose amplifier at the plug in the boot.

Has anyone got any photos of the plug or the bose amplifier?

I had a look last weekend and it seems that the Bose shelf is fixed with screws from above the shelf & I will need to pull the seats out to get the fibre shelf out before I can even look at the Bose amp wiring >:(

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Facelift headlight removal
« on: 25 November 2009, 13:41:53 »
I keep finding new features in my 2003 Elite that I didn't have in my 1994 CD. Such as
- Press and hold the climate temperature knob for about 10 seconds and it changes from degC to Fahrenheit.
- Beam adjusters for continental driving.

Actually I read about the beam adjusters back in September around about when I had to fit a new battery. I couldn't ignore the glue on the nearside headlight (presumably from a previous owners stick on beam adjusters) so cleaned that off with white spirit and had a quick grope inside the headlight to check that the beam adjuster was there. I couldn't find it so I decided to leave well alone.

Just recently I have noticed that my beam pattern was like
____ \__ instead of \__ \__.

I already knew that I couldn't get my hand in to the nearside headlight without the battery in place so I decided to undo the headlight retaining screws and ease it forward to have a look.

On my pre-facelift I would have undone 3 screws to lift the grille off, popped off the headlight washer jets, undone the  screw retaining the trim under the headlight and then the two lower headlight retaining screws would have been accessible.

I thought the facelift would be even easier (with the grille being attached to the bonnet) but I couldn't see any way of removing the trim under the headlight, it appears to be plastic welded to the headlight. I did try undoing the top 2 screws and (gently) pulling the headlight out but it did feel as though it was still attached underneath.

I put the screws back in, pushed the battery back as far as it would go (about 1/4") and did eventually manage to force my hand in to get the rubber cap off & then used a mirror on a stick to see that the lever was 'up' (= flat beam on passenger side). I somehow managed to ease the lever down and refit the rubber cap.

SO - getting back on topic. How do you remove a facelift headlight? Should I have pulled a bit harder when I had the top 2 screws out? or is it a bumper off job? or is the plastic trim clipped on rather than welded on?

My 2003 elite is very nice but I am struggling without the hands free phone cradle and DAB/MP3 that I had got used to with my last car.

Does anyone have the pin-outs or wiring diagrams for the CCR2006 and the BOSE amplifier?

I removed the Blaupunkt DAB53 radio and the Nokia CK7W hands free bluetooth kit from my last car and kept them safe.

My options are (and I might need to do this in stages)

1. fit the CK7W kit & connect it to the CCR2006.

2. fit the CK7W kit and the Blaupunkt head unit & connect the line outs from the head unit to the BOSE amplifier.

3. remove the BOSE amplifier (& double the usable space in the boot ;)), remove the 2ohm speakers & loom and install 4ohm speakers with loom back to the Blaupunkt head unit

4. find and fit steering wheel control interface.

5. find a display interface. Unless there is something that talks to the Blaupunkt bus that goes to the CD boot changer then this probably isn't possible so I will need a tech2 session to re-educate the MID.

I think that just about covers everything........

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / DAB Radio
« on: 11 August 2009, 14:09:05 »
I have been using a single DIN Blaupunkt DAB53 in my 1994 Omega for the last 5 years.

With a Nokia Cark91 phone interface (I fitted it 5 years ago so part no might be wrong) I have hands free phone, bluetooth or in cradle phone charging, 10CD boot changer, cd/mp3 player in head unit, memory card mp3 player, AM/FM/DAB radio. The three features that are most important to me are the phone charging, hands free and DAB radio. I don't have an interface for the MID so the radio display isn't 'integrated' but the design of the head unit (black plastic, no chrome effect bits) means it doesn't look out of place.

Do any of the integrated ICE in Omegas have DAB or scope to add DAB?

Has anyone written a guide to the capabilities of the different head units fitted to Omegas? (preferably with pictures to aid identification)

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / VAG-COM
« on: 15 August 2009, 22:09:35 »
Has anyone got experience of using VAG-COM with the Omega?

My previous Omega was a 1994 with the ALDL interface that only talks to the tech1.

I now have a 2003 2.6 V6 Omega, I also have VAG-COM. VAG-COM claims to be able to talk EOBD. I will have a play tomorrow & report back. If anyone has had any previous success I would be pleased to hear of it.

I assume that if it does work it will just act as a code reader.

2003 face lift 2.6 V6 Elite auto.

Sometimes/usually it starts fine.

Sometimes it starts but the alarm goes off.

Sometimes it just won't start unless I take the key out & try again.

I'm thinking that this is probably caused by a failing transducer on the ignition barrel.

Is the transducer just a dumb receiver or is it a fiendishly expensive device that needs tech2 to pair it with the keys/car?

Omega General Help / Tyres (again) - what was the verdict?
« on: 21 March 2011, 20:46:28 »
Took my Elite for an MOT today. It passed but with an advisory that the rear tyres were close to the legal limit.

I fitted them just before last years MOT so they have only lasted 14,000 miles :(

235/45R17 'Elite' (no I've never heard of them either) but they felt good and haven't given me any nasty surprises. At £108 the pair fitted including balance, valve, VAT & landfill tax I am tempted to go and get another pair.

Last year a thread was started discussing the best tyre for the Omega but I cannot remember what the verdict was :-/

I began to notice a gentle thump from the nearside rear suspension a couple of months ago. The new office has a free car park with some vicious speed humps & I'm not sure whether the noise was there before, but not noticeable, or whether the humps have dislodged something :-/

Last weekend I fitted new Lemforder bushes to the rear subframe. The rubber had totally separated from the outer sleeve on the near side and was clinging on on the offside.

It hasn't made any difference to the noise  :( but it has firmed up the rear end and reduced the rear wheel steering :y

I suspect the noise is from a failing (self levelling) shock absorber. Before I phone AndyC and order new shock absorbers is there anything else I should check?

Omega General Help / Re: head gasket problem?
« on: 08 January 2011, 13:33:01 »
At the earliest stage of HG failure a tiny amount of combustion gases force their way past the fire ring every time that cylinder fires. It doesn't take much to pressurise the cooling system when the cylinder is firing 1000 times every minute. That size leak probably won't show up on a compression test.

Omega General Help / Insignia Washer Jets - Spray Pattern Too Low?
« on: 16 September 2010, 20:04:55 »
Having followed Welung666's informative guide How To: Fitting Insignia Washer Jets I now have Insignia jets on my facelift.

I don't seem to be able to adjust the fan pattern high enough  :-/

Has anyone else had a similar experience?
