I wonder if the brake fluid level switch can become unreliable when old, as do header tank switches and washer fluid switches. Have you swopped it for a spare?

Just to clarify, the brake fluid level switch when low fluid throws up a warning light on the dash and has nothing to do with the low pad message in the message centre which is triggered by the brake pad wear sensor, or a fault in its wiring. ;)  HTH
