I wonder if somebody could help me to understand the internals of the wiper stalk, this is a pre facelift by the way.
Problem I'm still having after motor test (works fine) and relay replacement with new OEM unit, is that the wipers will work on the intermittent for a while then just stop, I then have to flick the stalk up to fast speed and back down again to normal speed then back to intermittent for them to continue working.
Is there anything in the stalk electrics that could maybe cause this?

I'd suggest the relay then .... can't remember now where it is though  :-\

By motor test you mean just connecting it straight to power or opening it up? Slow and fast speed have different carbon brushes inside the motor. I had a problem like this and it was a worn slow speed brush (the one that intermittant wipe uses). Try intermittant operation till it acts up, then switch to normal speed and then knock the motor. If it starts spinning: bad slow speed brush.

Hey Andy, relay changed for brand new (yeah I know that isn't always an indicator that it will be good) OEM unit. That relay is under the steering wheel not under the bonnet.
Mr Demolite, that's a great reply and yes motor tested and works on normal and fast speed as well as intermittent (some times) I had no idea the brushes were separate, thought there was a logic controller outside the motor or something like that.
At the moment the rain is just too heavy do anything about it and I shoot off back to Spain tomorrow...... I'll see if someone can sort it.
I had a quick look under the bonnet yesterday and it looks easy enough to get the motor out.

I'm sure there's a guide somewhere .... just be careful of the top of your driver's wing when you take the assembly out  :y

Right then, what make is the wiper motor? Can you buy bushes separate for it?
Is it a lot easier to just replace the motor or is it likely that a second hand motor could have the same problems?
The linkage obviously is fine so I only need the motor itself.
