Alt whine
« on: 22 June 2016, 14:35:49 »

I recently removed my all bells and whistles alpine h/u,  now I've put in a much cheaper sony mech less and I'm getting a whine when the slushbox kicks down then it stops when the normal driving resumes

Could I put ferrite chokes on the loom to suppress the noise?

Have you got any separate amplifiers, car kits and so on connected to the head unit or is it stand-alone?

If so, disconnect these and try it stand alone first.

Alternator whine is at too low a frequency for ferrites to make any difference. It's normally caused by a ground loop in a car, hence wondering what other kit is feeding the head unit.

The alpine had the parrot add on,  which got power from the wiring harness. Not a problem

The Sony was a straight swap after removing everything

No amps installed

I can't work it out. It only happens when you kickdown

I haven't heard it today,  I was using  the Ipod the whine seems  to be in the radio.

Could 8t be the aerial?

My fob also isn't working to well since changing the head unit but they can't be related can they?
