97 2.5 TD CDX Estate - Which Head Unit?
« on: 25 June 2016, 08:04:31 »

What head unit should be fitted to a 1997 CDX Estate?  Mine has a GM CD player head unit that doesn't seem to want to communicate with the dashboard display.  I'm sure it's not the original as in the boot there's a CD changer mounting bracket on the right hand side.  So I'm guessing the head unit would have been a tape player?

I'd like to replace the head unit with something that will talk to the dashboard display properly, preferably an original type if there's any out there at a reasonable cost.  I also need to replace all 4 speakers as they're all completely fubared, butI guess I can probably get those new locally.

I have a radio tape player and the changer and maybe able to help with the speakers. I will find out what the model number is of the head unit and changer so you can check if it's compatible if your interested mate. Unless your after the bose setup then I can not help sorry.

You need to hold down buttons 4 & 6 to toggle the different display settings.
8 or 10 digits.to get it to work correctly.
Cdr 500 was a cost option in lieu of car400 rad/cass.

I may well be interested depending on cost.  Not too worried about having the Bose unit, I just want something that's original-ish, and that works properly! The radio reception on the head unit that is in it is not good.  I know the old Grundig units fitted to later Senators used to lose the FM reception after a few years, not sure if the ones in the Omega do as well.

if it's a PFL on a 97, not a MFL (have you got radio buttons on the steering wheel?) then it's the SC804 with Philips autochanger. Same as me  :)

No doubt absolutely worthless... until you try and find one, then they're hen's teeth.

On my 2000 CDX estate I have a superb CCRT unit, with 6CD changer in the boot, and it drives a display with an unusual spidery tape face. Pic follows.

OP needs to tell us if he's got wheel-mounted audio controls. '97 was crossover year PFL/MFL

CCRT700 was only available on 1999 cars, so wouldn't have been fitted to OPs car.  The wiring is slightly unique on the CCRT700 and its unique CART display, so not plug and play into non CCRT cars.  That said, I retro fitted it to my 1998 MV6 briefly, before ripping it out and fitted the rather more featured NCDR1500 - http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=87632.0

No steering wheel buttons on mine. So guessing its a PFL.

I am interested in anything that works with the display on the dash. I can't get the head unit on mine to work at all with the display.
