Could do with some expert advice here, or just some general info really lol.

My current radio unit, a Philips SC-804 with CD changer, has decided to stop working. My battery died (I might have left the lights on  )so much so that I needed the AA to come out and get me going again. Once up and running the radio needed the code to work. I attempted 4 or 5 tries, couldn't recall the code from memory, left it until I got home, and then the radio just stuck on "SAFE". Now I know I'm supposed to have 10 attempts, at least I think I'm right in thinking that, so can only assume it's knackered.

I'm just about to change the bulbs on the Climate Control unit, as some have gone, so thought I'd replace the radio unit at the same time. Can I just replace it with any old (new) radio unit or does it have to be a specific type. I'm sure I read that with the Bose systems it has to be like for like, or the whole lot has to be changed. Is that the same for a standard Philips unit? Also, I'm assuming, due to the age, I'd need an adapter for the new unit, any idea what one and where to get it from? I'd still like to be able to use the display on the dash if possible.

Non bose can be replaced with any single din unit... Just swap the red and yellow wires on the new heading loom

Exactly, and only to preserve the memory. For some reason Vauxhall use opposite pins for the switched and permanent lives

Any idea where the best place to get one is by any chance? Also, chatting to someone earlier, they said it might need an adapter for the aerial as well, any idea if that's the case?

What aerial adapter depends on the radio you buy

Which radio depends on what you require from it, ie bluetooth/cd changer/DAB etc... basic jobbie from Helfrods/Argos etc will be about £50 new... vast selection available second hand on fleabay/gumtree etc to suit any budget...

Perhaps, but that one has bluetooth, ipod/mp3 plug and play and ability to add cd changer(s) which make it a reasonable all rounder imho.

Sure Dave can recommend alternatives to suit any budget though
