Radio Volume button iffy volume
« on: 22 December 2016, 15:55:45 »

Hi, I'm more used to using volume buttons on the radio that the steering wheel ones I now have on Omega. I've noticed that when I turn the radio vol down it either disappears very quickly or goes UP, yes up, and same when turning up, it either disappears for a split second or for longer, or goes down, perhaps up when it feels like it. Sounds like maybe a wee spurt of WD might clean the volume pot, does this crop up often as problem? Reckon probably dried out due to lack of use since the steering wheel vol buttons are available.

It wasn't standard on a CD so unlikely to be fitted to yours.

Yes, its almost certainly your volume pot that needs a clean - but NEVER EVER use WD40 anywhere near it

If you must spray something into it, then use a proper switch cleaner, not an engine degreasant

Strangely, mine does this sometimes.

Except it also does it on the steering controls too. But not constantly.

Click up, it goes down.

Twiddle the knob, it goes up, down, up a bit more. I do it until it is the correct volume.

Quite irritating.

Radio has a speed related volume input...

The radio takes a speed signal, and uses this as a multiplier for the volume.

This means as modest speed, if the SDVC (GM speak for this) is set quite high, a single "click" on the volume can result in a quite noticeable volume change if travelling at modest speed, eg 85mph.

However, at standstill, even with the SDVC set to max, it shouldn't be a big step in volume for each click on the volume.

Good description, and SDVC stands for Speed Dependent Volume Control

Mines doing that at the moment as the Vol knob fell off a few months back and its stuck on number 3. The faster I go the less I can hear the Radio.

Bloody annoying though, when your on the Motorway, having to slow down to 25 mph just to listen to the Traffic News, then only to find your the one causing the problem with the Traffic anyway.
