« on: 16 October 2017, 20:11:54 »

Going to need a new pair soon for my 3.2. I assume VX is still the best option ? Anyone know the current price for a pair on TC.
Ive long since forgotten the TC login details - again.  ::)

Were they not stupid money?  :-\

The fronts were always very reasonable with kit price with pads included, but with rears in particular the vented ones were insane money I think.  :-\

Dunno tbh. If that's the case I might measure the thickness, and if possible have the faces ground to remove the lip.

Quick search, not as bad as I thought, stole Jimbob's post:

Retail, trade, tradeclub + vat
Brake Disc Kit; Front; Ø 296 x 28mm; Vented    93175466    £114.00    £94.11    £83.83

Solid; Ø 286 X 12mm    90444513    £98.00    £83.36    £68.61
(or for others Vented; Ø 286 x 20mm    93182287    £98.00    £83.57    £70.95)

cant see the rear pad price for some reason, front pads in the kit above.

Yeah they do look a bit pricey. I already have a set of genuine pads, just got a little lip on the discs.
Thanks.  :y

Albs, after KwikShit condemned my front discs (felt ok to me) and wanted £260 or so to replace them, pointing to the lip, I felt the swept surfaces and they seemed ok to me, so I said "Forget it, at that price!". They looked shocked, because seemingly I "did a Lizzie" and refused to be conned.
Anyway, the real point is that I then went to Tyre-Smart for tyres and a second opinion, and they said that the discs were fine and the lip was not a problem because it's common once the discs have worn even by a small amount and even new pads wont touch it.
As you implied when you said that you would check the thickness, so long as they are above the minimum required thickness, all is well.  :y

Im thinking along the same lines Ron. If they were only a few quid I would chuck a new pair on there, but when there isn't much change out of £100, when you add VAT, then I shall make the effort to find out if they really need replacing.
I know new ones are 20mm thick, but now need to find out the minimum thickness, before proceeding any further.  :y
If it really needs them it shall have them, but its been spoilt rotten with new parts since I bought it, and there has to be a limit somewhere.  ;) ;)

Maybe Tyre-Smart will have the figures, Albs? They seem pretty clued-up there.
If not, surely someone on the forum will know, or even Vx themselves?
Do you have a micrometer, or able to borrow one?

Got a digital one Ron. Just need the minimum thickness. I'm sure Doc Gollum will post it up when he sees this thread.

When the pads come together, and you don’t really stop, the discs have had it  ;D

Does anyone use the indent in the side of the disc? You know that grooved but which shows how far it can wear down?

eg:

You can't see how close to those indents for all the srustiness on the outside edges, sir!  :(

For srustiness, read crustiness - typo due to sausage fingers!
