So I get my car washed in the supermarket car park. I've been informed they use TFR and this proper does your headlights, plastic trims etc. in.

Is that right? Bar the headlights fogging I've never noticed any trim going light?

Tesco near work they have proper hand car wash, seperate bays with pressure washers.

Most though, just have those carts wheeled around by chaps from Romania. Where their water washes 20 cars without being changed. Bet they use traffic film stuff....personally I would not use them.

Don't the the facts & figures, but I wouldn't let them near any car of mine.
Every week in Sainsburys car park I get "gawashsir?"  Every week they get the same answer. "Far cough".

TFR does exactly what it claims to. But to remove the combination of grease, dirt, salt, bugs, tar etc etc that traffic film consists of it is very caustic. You buy it concentrated, and dilute it heavily for use. Then you have to rinse it off with copious amounts of clean, fresh water.


If you don't do those things properly then expect to dull your paint and damage plastic and aluminium parts.

Got ya cheers for the info. That makes sense. A bloke sprays it on. It sits there for ages while waiting for the other bloke with the sponge comes along. Then another eternity til the bloke with the jet wash removes your paint for u 😂😂😂

I know this is bad but I hate cleaning cars. What's my alternative 🤔

We never used to see any issues on cars which had a lacquer coat or paint that was not at least half decently kept.

However, take a base colour such as red, which has not seen wax in a few years so its oxidising and turning lighter and it used to turn lighter in colour.

That said, it was diluted correctly, sponged over, and rinsed well. 

Its bloody good stuff for cleaning engines etc. with to

I’ve been getting my car washed by the Eastern Europeans for years. I believe they use this stuff every time. My car is gleaming afterwards, and the paint has never shown any signs of fading. I also don’t change my oil every farts end or particularly worry about the brand of tyres or fuel I use. I never put any wax on and leave pigeon shit on until the rain washes it off.


It’s a wonder my car isn’t a rusty, dull thing with a blown up engine. 
Never mind TFR, you all need to try GAFL.

Gave new headlights a polish today and they've come up even better. Love them!

I'm not precious about cleaning my car, far from it. I just am particularly keen to not mess up my new headlights as if Serek hadn't have come to the rescue getting hold of some was becoming bloody difficult!

Given the margins these car wash places are working with I'd suggest they'll dilute their chemicals as much as they can get away with and rinsing the car off with a pressure washer or steam cleaner will sort out the rinsing side.All in all you should be fine,I take my cars to such places[when I can be bothered to get them cleaned in the first place]and I've never had any problems.

The one I go to has a really good reputation and, as for it paying, you want to see the car the owner drives. It’s a bronze coloured Bentley SUV of some sort. Not my type of thing but not cheap.

Three times a year our local Fire station hold a charity car wash,with the money raised going to their charity.So that's where mine usually goes.After all 3 times a year for a car wash is enough for anyone isn't it?
