Will any V6 steering box fit any other V6?

I only ask because Steve Brown says they are all numbered, suggesting I might need just the right one.

Answers, came there none. I have just checked the part nos. on my silver 2.5 estate, X reg 2001, 9 227 770, and my blue 2.5 estate, V reg 2000, 90 538 729. My Y reg 2001 2.6 saloon steering box is 9 227 770.

By the way, should you perchance wish to check the part number of your steering box, it does not involve crawling under the car, as I presumed, it is in clear view on opening the bonnet, on the plate atop the steering box.

I seem to recall that, on the servotronic cars, there is a matching between the code index in the servotronic ECU and a code on the box, so, if in doubt, take the servotronic ECU from the donor car as well as the steering box. I can't imagine it makes any difference bar a slight change in steering effort (it can't!).

From memory, there is a pre-facelift variant and a post facelift variant.  :y

Obviously the 4 pots are not Servotronic so they are not suitable

The non servotronic system feels better during spirited driving. In normal use there's minimal difference between them... might be a touch heavier at low speeds with the extra weight of the v6 though :-\
