Abarth 595
« on: 16 January 2018, 13:21:37 »

Talking with my car share buddy on the way in, he must be a bad influence. (he does drive a BMW)

But I quite like the idea of an Abarth 595  :-[

160 odd BHP in something the size of a shoe, completely what I would not normally look at but good value I think....

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201711101120597

Often hear one in the car park at work, sound fantastic. (skip to 40s)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32I9T6zSGbQ

Lord Opti should hopefully be happy, it's not diesel  ::)  ;D

I am indeed pleased it doesn't run on 'the spawn of Satan'

I would say it is quite a gender specific little car though. ::) ::)

Probably most sales come from girlies and hairdressser's.

Another concern could be........it's small and you are tall.

Not tiny like the 1957 original but still quite small.

Jeez what's happening to Tunnie?!  :o

His type of car is a big barge that he can waft about everywhere at 40mph, but he's now looking at unhinged hot hatches!  ::)

Maybe he's had a liquid lunch?  :)

The 695 is more unhinged. The 595 is more 'luke warm'

I`d rather have an MX5, it`ll handle better, quicker and being Japanese it`ll be more reliable.

Oh and if you`re after one with a bit more oomph BBR did a turbo conversion :y

The MK1 is getting pricey now.

As said, not normally what I would look at. Fiesta ST etc don't appeal, but for some reason this does. As mentioned sound great and I think they look nice as well.  :-[ :-[ :-[

Suspect I would love it for a day, then get tired of its rock hard ride.

Buy a Mini Cooper S Coupe... that way you can impress your BMW car share buddy and have a car that isn't based on a Ford Ka/Vauxhall Adam ::)

I had a clit 172 for the day once. Great fun for an hour but by then I was done with it.

Very quick, but a noisy little fu*ker with a rock hard ride. The Fiat would probably be similar.

Now if you were 22 it would probably be great........not so good for an old boy like yourself though. ;)

Well that is that, me being 6ft5. The reviews did state lack of steering column adjustment a pain.

If you fancy visiting your youth and blowing off some cobwebs now and again, go and buy a old Mk1 Golf GTI, XR3i or Astra GTE before they all either rot or go up too far in price  :y

695 biposto would be a giggle, if only for a dog box  :y

For sensible money I’d have a rear engined rwd Twingo. Then again I wouldn’t, because I don’t fit. Last time I was in a 500 the driver told me to stop leaning forward because he couldn’t see the wing mirrors.

I wasn’t leaning forward.  ::)

Tunnie is right, the Fiat 500 is becoming more popular with men:

Nice little car, don't see many about so like the rarity factor but after being used to large cars I think you would soon tire of it despite its performance.

Humm not sure I'd agree.

Rover 75 with CDTi lump, wood dash, classic rover inside. (sh!t) vs MG ZT V8, different exterior and interior styling, with Mustang lump. Completely changes the car.

You could argue that the Lotus Carlton as well? No different from standard Carlton?

Nice little car, don't see many about so like the rarity factor but after being used to large cars I think you would soon tire of it despite its performance.

I drove home last night, tired, it was dark, just wanted to get home. Very thankful of V6 + auto + smooth ride.

Suspect I would get tired as you say of it being so small.

Also my commute is mostly motorway/large roads, so again not really suitable. If I had to blat to Reading on the country twisties however, I would consider one.

Er no, the Rover 75 was far from transformed with the V8 and is only an expensive to fuel Rover 75, the Lotus Carlton is just a fast Carlton, it only achieved a cult statement due to just how mad it was....its still a Carlton.

Similarly the Abarth is still a Fiat 500 with a faster engine.
