You can fit normal tyres but have to tell insurance as its a mod

I wouldn`t have thought is was classed as a mod in the same way that fitting run flats to a car that didn`t have them as standard would be a choice not a mod.

I know that on a 3 series they are bloody awful and every hard bump in the road makes it feel like your spine is gonna shatter lol

Ive heard of people being refused an AA / RAC visit for  puncture if youve removed them.  Dont get it myself as you dont pay a reduced premium for having run flats

But with RFT, the owner should be able to get to nearest tyre place in event of puncture. So if fitting non RFT tyres to RFT car, you will always be stranded in case of puncture. So the AA/RAC etc are quite within their rights to refuse (to attend for free) IMHO

You've met and dealt with the public haven't you? So you know perfectly well that many of them are so stupid they shouldn't be allowed out on their own. I've been to many run-flats destroyed by the driver not doing anything about replacing them when they're flat, and driving the car for several hundred miles like that. Or several weeks. Often, both. Then they whine that there's no spare - which is what they should have done BEFORE they bought the car.

My point exactly....making the OP aware of a potential issue if he no longer has run flats.

(but should they be able to refuse given they dont do feature based pricing, its one size fits all, is another question all together)

Just be very aware that the suspension setup is designed around using run flats with a hard side wall, fitting standard tyres can and does impact the handling quite a bit.

Do run flats still do their intended job ok if they have a large gash in the side wall? Just asking.
