Facelifted XF has some significant improvements, hence I would only consider one of these.
Not drastically different for Portfolio spec.  I have copies of the standard features pages from the brochures for both pre facelifted 2011 model and 2012 facelifted model.

If you were stepping down a notch, the facelifted Premium Luxury offers HIDs over the PFL equiv...   ...not that many Jags from the Tata era are usually standard spec.

The real killer with the FL version is the stupid stop-start wank, and the early 8 speed ZF autos had a high warranty rate (as did the early 6 speed, but was resolved by the time the XF came along).

Vw had stop start, was not really a fan due to diesel start up feel.

Would consider Premium Luxury, as you say it has HIDs which is a must.

Needs to be XF-S due to sports seats and other little touches I like.

That said car share still going well, so no urgent need to replace the 3.2.

I didn't notice any difference, visually or feel, between XF and XFS seats for same model ie Prem Luxury or Portfolio...

XFS seats look the same as mine, I think, just a different colour.......as dies electric seat control. Eighteen way on my car.

My have both heating and coolers. I presume XFS is the same.

As said, for the Portfolios I was looking at, can't say I noticed the difference between the XF and XFS.  There was a noticeable difference between Prem Luxury and Portfolio, from a comfort viewpoint - not that the Prem Luxury was in any way uncomfortable.

Maybe they all had same seats - apart from the base spec stuff, most have unique specs.

The downside is, they are all leather, therefore not as great as they could be. Portfolio XFs do have seat coolers as standard, which helps a bit in the summer.

Noticed later ones of previous shape had a R Sport trim, with partial leather. No memory seats though.
