If this is for the Mundano, you need more info than that.  It will take a low SAPS oil, so you're looking at also the C number.

If it takes the specific Ford specification oil (Ford spec oils start MC) that my Jag does, you're in for a bumpy ride, hopefully yours may take the older, low spec which is more common.  I had to go to Opie (who, incidentally also offered the wrong spec based on reg) in the end to get anything at a reasonable price

Check the glovebox manual for the exact spec, as the likes of ECP do NOT offer the right oil by registration in my experience.


As AP are part of the ECP group, they too may offer incorrect oil.

Mmmm, thanks, Ford actually reccommend Castrol, which, because of our Oof antipathy to it, I was going to look for something else a bit cheaper, as retail oil prices are ridiculous.

Castrol are what Jag recommend, and seem to be one of the few meeting Ford spec WSS M2C934B which my car needs.

ECP and similar suggest oils meeting the lesser (and unsuitable for DPF) WSS M2C913-B


So, as said, check glovebox manual for Ford Spec, and match to that.

I don't know huge amount about it, but when I was looking for mine, it appears there are different types of low SAPS, classified as C1, C2, C3 etc, and it appears you have to use the right type to maintain the life of the DPF.

Whether or not there's protectionism and scare mongering, I don't know.  But everything I could find seemed to suggest not deviating to a different base.

My manual does say I can use C2 in emergency (M2C934 is C1)

Local Ford stealer uses Fuchs oil.Some is delivered in a tanker and is pumped into a big holding tank which the techies then programme to deliver however many litres they need for the vehicle they're working on,while a couple of grades/specs are delivered in 50gal drums.

Yep. If my car needs topping up, I put some oil in it. I don't really bother checking what it says on the can, cause I must have used it in other cars or I wouldn't have it on my shelf.

But with modern DPF cars, "any old shit" doesn't do, without expensive consequences.


So my advice to the OP was to check the exact spec listed in his glovebox manual, and try to match that way. Not necessarily from Ford Dealer (though always worth checking price), or premium brands, but at least something that matches the spec.

Just because many dealers, garages and repairers are cowboys, doesn't mean DIYers should stoop to that

Not wishing to interrupt ...  but, as you know I'm totally thick ...  so .. and I just can't get my head around this .... what difference does the engine oil spec make with regards to injecting extra fuel into a coked up can to burn off the coke .. which is my understanding of a DPF and its regen cycle ..... ??

Confused of North Wiltshire ........

Normal oil's contain Sulphated Ash, Phosphorous and Sulphur (SAPs) which are harmful to the DPF. That's why a lot od modern cars use "Low SAPs" oil, to avoid damage to these components.

Although oil isn't strictly burnt in the combustion process, with things on modern engines like crankcase breathers being recycled into the air mixture, and other such engineering techniques - inevitably some of the oil content will end up being combusted in one way or another, thus, some of the harmful SAPs would reach the DPF.

Thankfully, my 15 year old, 220,000 mile Omega doesn't care

What they do at my local garage is order in the servicing kit from Andrew Page...give them the reg number and get the lot delivered. What Andrew Page deliver I don't know.

Two key areas they have to consider with oil is:

SAPs, the DPF over time will fill with ash and the ash is a result of burnt oil and not from the fuel, the low SAPs oils stops the ASH build up. Ash does not get removed from the DPF during a regen and eventually will clog it up.

Direct injection petrol - needs a specific oil type to stop piston/ring damage due to the oil igniting during the compression stroke.

Plus of course there are warranty issues, as TB says, find the oil spec needed and match it up to your oil of choice.

Tradeclub have the stuff back in stock for mine (Ford WSS M2C-934B), following the change of supplier, so 20l can ordered, £56+VAT...  ...and being TC, delivered to my door by a nice man in a van tomorrow.

So that makes it approx. £20 on oil, and a £5-6 filter, which is slightly over double the cost of changing the oil on the old Omega, but certainly cheap enough to be able to keep to my preferred 5k (ish) oil change interval.
