Can anyone recommend a suitable flaring tool along with pipe and fittings for the Omega...

Considering fixing mine in order to sell it with a fresh MoT...

Just been reading a thread on the same subject on another forum. Advice was to buy this one and no other.

That type of tool will make a usable flare with some practice and luck. Its only good point is that it's cheap, as your suggested kit shows. When making flares you MUST cut the pipe square and deburr both inside and out without mangling it. Spend another £4 at Wickes or B&Q on a small rotary pipe cutter and deburr with a fine file.


Spending a bit more on a better flaring tool that only does one size of pipe is probably a better idea. I like and recommend the Automec vice mounted tool, but it is expensive.


The pipe fittings are dirt cheap at any motor factors.

Have all three types mentioned here - Draper, Automec and the one Al linked to.

Automec - perfect flare every time.
Draper - perfect flare with a little practice.
Al's one - as useful as a chocolate teapot. The only thing I've successfully done with it is single-flare bundy tube for windscreen wipers.

Il second that recommendation. The draper one is good and easy to use and can be used in small spaces too.
Pipe is easy to get anywhere.copper all fine and easy to use ,cupronickel a bit harder to bend but tougher in service.steel only for show cars or someone who wants total originality.
Metric ends easy to get anywhere,I think most on Vauxhall’s are the type where the thread ends a few mm from the end rather than full thread.

Or if it's only going to be a "one off" job[i.e. you're not going to be making brake pipes up for other cars in future]you could take the brake pipe off the car pop to your local motor factors with it/them and get them to make you some up there and then.

I used the Laser kit a while back and it worked perfectly fine.

THIS sort of tool is a much better bet than the bar type, and isn't that much more expensive.


One of THESE saves a lot of messing around when making brake pipes, as you won't get a good flare if you don't cut the end of the pipe square.

That said, if it doesn't I might not either... Looking at it, there's absolutely opps all wrong with either the metal pipe or the flexi... Stupid tester was adamant that the front to rear pipe is 'about ready to explode'... Unfortunately he pointed everything out after pulling the car out so wasn't shown exactly where the issue is, only vaguely towards the back
