I also know dodgy outfits like Halfords and quickfit fail and charge for headlight aiming etc.
If the headlight aim is out of tolerance, it is a fail , even if  just one bulb needs replacing ,it's a fail ,must be entered on the VTS device as a fail, then repaired, then part retest
not that i'm sticking up for Halfrauds or quicksh!t
you can't do repairs ,however minor, during a test

but i suspect your implying that such outfits fail on such items ,even though they are fine ,just to meet sales targets etc bump up the bill
you could be right  ;D

My tester will adjust headlight aim during a test

The test is to check that the beam doesn't fall into prescribed areas and dazzle oncoming traffic. It is NOT a check that you can see where you're going.

So? What I am saying is that the headlamp aim is fine, but it goes down as a fail just so VOSA  can see a fail. There is no charge for 'fixing' it and a pass is issued immediately after.

there is no fail quota an mot station has to meet
but if a car is presented for MOT with a headlamp aim out of tolerance, it should be a fail on the system ,so vosa know about it ,
many cars aim is adjusted with a simple turn of a screw (which some MOT garages charge £25 + vat per side to adjust)

say every 2015 ford fester is presented for MOT and the brake light bulbs are blown on most , VOSA would recognize a pastern  and investigate .
if the NT just replaces the bulbs while testing ,no one would know that ford festers are crap  ;D
just an example  :y not saying all 2015 festers have blown brake bulbs  ;)

headlamp aim and emissions are easy pickings for rip off garages to charge for because not many of us has calibrated headlamp beam alignment testers or emission machines

I've seen people in main dealer service center receptions parting with £500+ for mot repairs on 3 year old cars

.....

That's not quite true. My tester told me that a few years ago he was pulled up for not failing a certain percentage of vehicles (his quota) but VOSA was happy with the reply that the MOT station tests a lot of local ambulances that are tested yearly from new so therefore fewer 'sheds' than the norm

45 euros I think from memory in Spain. Government run stations.

I think the finefor no MOT is 40 euros.

£39.85 at mine. And £30 to any OOF member who wants one 😁😁😁

I know that when we put online MOTs at under that we got less interest. Probably to do with people thinking that we'd try and do them (not the case but new customers don't know that).

I also know dodgy outfits like Halfords and quickfit fail and charge for headlight aiming etc.
Do you need the car?  :D

I'm guessing the locals don't bother, then ;D

I always use my local village garage for MOT,s. At £50 it isn't the cheapest but he is a good honest bloke who is very good at his job so Im happy to give him a bit of support.
