Really sorry to hear that Moggy. Hope your wife is ok. Cars can be replaced. No need to leave though. Many members no longer own Omegas.

No mate the air bags did not go off,the car hit the plinth in between the front and back door but mainly the back door(passenger side). If that makes any sense.BTW the dvla site says the other car is not due an mot till 2020,does that mean its not yet 3 years old.Police were there so she must be legal.Dean.

Funny you should say that Varche, the wife and i were just talking. The other car is a vauxhall meriva and she hit us on the back pass door, but after the smash. My car was 45 degrees to the left, so she must have been going quite fast to turn a 2 tone car.Dean.

Just been re-reading some of this, bit rough the job going down the tubes too.Who valued the Omega at £100? even weighed in for scrap they fetch more than that so as a "going concern"which it obviously was or you wouldn't have been driving it it's got to be worth more surely?

I've had £75 for a pair of washer jets off an elite so £100 for the whole car is taking the P*ss , keep the car and scrap it yourself if you can

When i looked for  insurance for it, the more i said it was worth the higher the quote.Even when i said i paid £400 for it the premium was astronomical, and i could not afford it.So i just said £100 even then the price was £370 for the year. :( Dean.

Its not possible to keep the car as its in bits.No roof 2 doors missing bonnet damaged and lots of other thing the fire brigade did to it.The insurance are picking it up from the recovery place to take it somewhere to be assessed, they will write it off so how can i scrap it myself.Dean.

Just go on to the site where you usually tax it and declare it SORN for now.

https://www.gov.uk/make-a-sorn
Or phone them, there's a phone number on there.

I believe that you can buy the car back for pennies from the insurance company, if only you had room to store/work on the bits. Another downside is actually having the car back, reminding you of the trauma of the accident.....

They won't allow that if the roof has been cut off... Be a Cat B at best and more likely a Cat A. If A then that's crush only... No way on the planet it will be returned.

Also if under insured your unlikely to see much back, but you need to be claiming off the third party insurer, not yours.

I scrapped my 2.2 estate for £183 to give you an idea of value.

I know it wont be your priority at the moment, but it sounds like your wife is in hospital injured due to the other drivers fault.
When things have calmed down a bit, make sure she initiates an injury claim against the other driver. If you have aches & pains etc. then you do the same thing.
Seems you lost the chance of a job through this, so don't lose any sleep over taking their insurance company for every penny you can get.

^This!^  :y

As Albs said, not only should you go after the other persons insurance for your car, but loss of earnings and injuries to you both. Especially your wife, as she's ended up in hospital through the other persons (assumed) negligence.  :y

Did you have legal cover with your insurance?  ???  If so use that and they will manage your claim, and will do their best to take the other persons insurance company to the cleaners.  If not consider getting a solicitor or claims management company to manage the claim on a no win no fee basis.  :y

With respect Dean I think you need professional help to guide you through this, and achieve the best outcome for you and Mrs Moggy.  :y

Without going in to to much detail, the accident was my fault.Basically i pulled out of a junction looked right clear, concentrating on the slip road in front.I pulled out only glancing to my left sun in my eyes, did not see the other car coming from the left.So its my fault as the other driver had right of way,its a funny junction where you cross to the middle you should then stop and look left.I didn't. :( :-[ Dean.

Sorry Dean, my bad assuming it wasn't your fault.  :-X  :(
No probs Tigger,i did not say who's fault it was but i made the mistake. The police said it was my fault any way as the other driver had right of way.But if you could see the junction you would see how i took it wrong,it has a funny stop mark on the road. Its like a square with an angle cut out one side with an arrow pointing right in front of it.Don't remember seeing one before but i should of stopped at it,but i didn't.I have been told by the police i may be done for careless driving, and maybe points on my license. The bruise on my wife's right breast is huge, and i caused it.So feeling sick about that but all other party's uninjured,so thank god for that.Looking back it all happened so fast there was no avoiding it,but my mistake has cost us dearly. No job no car and soon again no home, people can't live on universal credit.Just when i thought we were getting our lives back,we are kicked in the bollix again this time its because of me. :'( >:( :o Dean.

Is there a McDonald's or similar within walking distance?

If yes. Start there.

I wasn't joking.

You might not get the one dream job at £500k a week, but equally there's plenty of work to be done and 30 hours a week at £8.00p/h is £240 a week more than you currently earn.

At risk of being blunt. Life happens to everyone. Only one person has any control over what happens next.

That's YOU.

Plenty of work if you are prepared to try.

Yes i agree mate.I don't want a 500k job but me and the wife have applied,to over 150 jobs in the last 6 months and got nothing.Yes life does happen to everyone but we could do with a fooking brake once in a while. We have not claimed any benefit until our savings and my pension cash in run out at the end of august. Our start again was this job and now that is fooked up,some people can only take so much mate.Dean.

I understand, but even if you have to sign on with a few agencies and end up doing warehouse work it should give you Hope by doing two things... Firstly give you some self esteem back and secondly, giving you some income.

McDonald's also feed you whilst on shift, so that would also help the budget, so really don't dismiss the idea.

Royal Mail are recruiting for the Christmas post again... Could be a foot in the door for longer term opportunities.
Likewise local bus company will probably put you through your bus test... Don't worry about the accident. Cross that bridge if it happens.

Also, if cash is that tight, don't rush to replace the car.

MASSIVE sympathies for your predicament, Moggy; I feel for you.
Could you have cycled to that job you missed out on? You mentioned pension: do you have a bus pass?

Not an establishment I visit often, but I have seen a large number of staff typically being my sort of age (knocking on the door of 50), in addition to the stereotypical spotty yoofffs.

A mate of mine who's 66 does part time work at a Mc D's in Barnsley.Try local supermarkets see if they want anyone for their home delivery vans or even shoving trolleys round the car park ok so possibly not ideal jobs but could be enough to put you on.Hope something turns out for you and try not to get too disheartened.

I tried B&Q. I was doing ok until a bloke came up to me and said he wanted decking.  ;D...…….I,ll get me coat.
Seriously though, there is no shame in any form of gainful employment. There is (or at least should be) shame for those idlers who sit on their arse and live of the backs of the rest of us.
We know from previous posts that Moggy is anything but that, so hopefully life will start to turn around for him now.

Another couple of possibles-these have been mentioned to me as I'm due to retire at the end of October and thinking of a part time job to get me out of the house a few hours a week-local councils often advertise jobs such as driving the mini buses to ferry disabled kids to/from school and that sort of thing or local NHS may have a variety of vacancies which require no specific skills. Both of these would be on their web sites as opposed to job centres/local press.

Another option is your local screwfix. Always looking for staff of any age. I now work in taunton and the youngest is 18 and the oldest is a 64 farmers wife who knew nothing about what we sell but loves the job.

B n Q first employer in the UK to actively employ people over the 'usual employment age' ie: they have zero age discrimination policy.

Genuinely all the best in the near future, and I hope things do come good soon. At the end of every run of bad luck, there's some good luck.

You don't know til you try ;)

I've never worked there, because they wouldn't employ me. I went on the bins instead.

BUT, I have a number of friends who have, predominantly when 20-24, but also two guys in their 40's who, at different times had to play the and they were dealt.

The business is what it is, you work pretty hard, but they 100% do not discriminate, my local one is typically staffed by people in their 40's at the time I go (about 0545 most weekdays for coffee), I reckon the 20-24yo's probably don't fancy those times.

Any end up, don't rule them out.

Just seen this .................  :(

Firstly glad you and your missus are relatively okay mate.
Yes, it might be your fault but as the saying goes ............ in life, shit happens  ;)
Your not the first to opps up and you certainally won't be the last mate so don't beat yourself up over it okay  :y

Secondly, about jobs.
I'm not going to throw links at you mate.
I know exactly how hard it is to get work up there and yes, your age doesn't help regardless of what shite the government and employers spout but its not impossible  ;)

A few questions for you ............

Have you and your lass got CV's ?
What have you both done in the past (work wise) ?
Qualifications ?

Just for the record, i've just blagged my way into a retail job.
Only a 7 1/2 hour contract.
Last week, I did 13 hours.
This week, I did 22 hours.
The next two weeks, i've got over 40 each week  :y
Its all about getting through the door then working your 'dangle berries' off  ;D :y

Working week is Sunday to Saturday

Another relative local here - it is a bad junction, no denying it.

Moggy, seriously, McD's seem to have a policy of employing from all age ranges, backgrounds and, basically lives. As said, it's better than nothing, and shy bairns get nowt. Try it!
