The latest outrage

Having just seen the news about the latest Grenfell outrage...

...the incident was in extremely poor taste, but arresting 5 people is a bit extreme, isn't it?

Good job it wasnt Luther doing the arresting.

Three people would have been dead including his own wife.

One the one hand it could be argued that they should be arrested and culled for not only being stupid enough to do it, but also for filming it and uploading it to so shall meeja.
On the other hand there have been quite a few examples of effigies of Boris Johnson, Thatcher and others being burnt without anyone getting outraged.
Bottom line is, they apparently made anti muslim comments on the video, so will be done for a religious hatred offence.

Can you now be arrested for extreme bad taste? But yes, what a bunch of knobs.

Five working class white blokes arrested for celebrating Bonfire Night...*

Not sure how you can commit a public order offence in your back garden, at night :-\

*perhaps the least appropriate choice of effigy.

Making fun of the deaths of 79 people was a disgraceful and disgusting thing to do.  >:(  However they did it in the supposed privacy of their back garden and had they not idiotically uploaded the video to the internet, nobody would have known.   ::)

Whether a crime has been committed or not seems uncertain, but the authorities will find something to charge them with to make an example of them and to appease the outraged!

Luckily, they have handed themselves in to the police otherwise I'm sure the Met would have allocated huge (scarce) resources into tracking them down.  ::)

It wasn't funny and it wasn't clever. Neither was it worthy of a lengthy slot on the prime time news.

Extreme bad taste and utterly stupid in loading it onto the internet but I also felt a bit uncomfortable about the repeated outpouring of media sympathy and outrage .

If there is anything more than a fine and warning here then it will be a disgrace .

I was in my local on Sunday night and as usual was being grilled about Brexit. One oppswit vociferously remarked that " in 20 years you Brits will bitterly regret Brexit " .
( I have translated what he mumbled in Kerrytone to English  so you can understand what he was saying.......)

It went right over his simple backcountry empty head when I said that in 20 years time Brexit will be the least of Britains regrets .

An abhorrent act, without doubt, but one which caused no harm other than the obvious offence and the self-defamation of those who participated.

I only hope those whose incompetence caused the real Grenfell tower to be maintained in such a dangerous state are pursued with the same vigour by the legal system. ::)

Exactly, Kevin; thanks for putting things in perspective. I never saw the news item and know only what I gather from this Forum, but it seems like the snowflakes and professional "offendeds" came out in force over a trivial - and private - incident?

I struggle with the logic of this.  It absolutely caused offence to probably hundreds of thousands of people.  BUT the offence was caused by the TV stations showing the damn stupid stunt on TV!  The back garden bullshit was just for their simpleton laughs, its the TV channels that have deliberately caused offence by broadcasting it.  IMO it is them who should be held to account.

In very bad taste and offensive to the more fragile kind, but neither are a criminal offence unless we scrap free speech which is a short road from freedom to dictatorship & much worse. >:( >:( >:( Mistake they have made is bad taste, threat of violence and death threats are all okay as long as it is the right type of left wing view from the constant mock outrage from the left wing ill-liberals. >:( >:( >:( UK MSM have much to answer for with their false framing, sensationalism & moke outrage with the Boys Buggering Corporation always at the forefront for this. >:( >:( >:(

It is important that the Met police ate tied up for 100's of hours along with the courts on this major crime, where it is fortunate they only have a few other minor crimes to spend a fews minutes on creating a crime number for, like the 5 knife murders over the last 6 days. :( :( :(

I don't know exactly how the famiklies and survivors felt about this 'prank' but I can tell you from experience how it feels to hear jokes about killing cyclists by running them over when that is exactly what happened to your own brother when you were young.  It hurts deeply to a point where the suffering can be indescribable, it also drags up buried memories that are less than pleasant to regurgitate.  The majority of good folk can understand this and stay away from such 'jokes' and 'banter'.  The problem is the minority and the only way to get them to change is to get the message out that it is wrong, sometimes the most effective way is through the police/media vehicle.  So while it might seem like PC gone mad there is an important element to the message that makes such idiots think twice the next time they get a bit lairy and for the benefit of everyone.

I also doubt that any actual law has been broken, the link between the act of burning an effigy and actual harm is tenuous and difficult to prove.  However, if through arresting them the police then find other crimes then I sure hope they prosecute to the full extent possible.

I think quite a few of us may have laughed at ,or told a joke that was not PC or in quite bad taste , I know i have .
Any joke has to pick on someone.  When I was a kid, all jokes started "An Englishman, Scotsman and Irishman".  I also go to see Kevin B Wilson when he's over, but my non-English-descent* mates know I ain't racist, and my female mates know I ain't sexist.

Trouble is, we have bred a whole (useless) society of professional moaners.

*I think that is politically correct enough not to cause public offense.  What I call my friends privately, to their face when arsing around telling jokes, is between me and my mates.  There, hope that settles the 'flakes, and the waste of oxygen that Opti has on his profile.
