You jest, when I had the misfortune* to work at TNT, that was a rural round in a 7.5t. Fortunately it wasn't limited as it was just too old
Normal day would be 55-65 drops a day and 150km. January would see that drop to 30-40 drops but 240km.. (they used to stand down drivers on a seniority basis and combine the rounds to cover, hence the mileage would shoot up as you did 12 or so postcodes rather than the usual 4-5).
December, however was typically over 80 and 180-200km on your usual round.
If for some reason you were sent out in a van, then you occasionally had to do your collection round as soon as you were empty and head back for another load. Fortunately most collections were regulars and you had enough of a rapport to obtain some flexibility in delivery/collection windows.
*As with any job, it is always what you make of it, but the first three months saw me on the edge of a breakdown. Not sure what happened after three months, but the whole job suddenly became infinitely easier.
