Speed record attempt abandoned
« on: 07 December 2018, 15:04:47 »

The attempt to take the land speed record to 1,000mph has been abandoned after the company failed to attract further investment and has gone into receivership :'( :'(

Apparently after a successful-if rather slower than 1,000mph-run they then needed £25m more investment :o to take it forward

To a billionaire £25m is pocket change ;)

Don't see any point in it I'm afraid, if you want to travel at those speeds take a plane, or better still a blast into space.

Don't know of a commercial aircraft that will travel at that kind of speed anymore Tilbo. As you point out there is no real point in attempting this but then there was no real point in climbing Everest or breaking the sound barrier in an aircraft and a whole host of other things that people have done, but people do it for the challenge and to prove it can be done.

Elon Musk has stated he will put a Man on Mars by 2025. Ambitious or over-ambitious?

I would say that most of the 'exciting things in life' have no point.......no practical purpose.

We do exciting and dangerous things because it makes us feel alive (provided it doesn't kill us) :y

The track they wanted to try it on is 18 kilometres in length (11.25) miles at 1,000mph it would take approximately 40 seconds to cover that distance, if I had billions I certainly wouldn't waste one penny on that seen pictures of "the car" it looks like a university development no wonder no one will back it .

Probably could put a man on mars.....but whether dead or alive would be the question !!! No different to putting anything else on there ;)

Unfortunately, overly ambitious & as a result has taken far too long & far too much money. :( The Internet & Social Media has also drastically changed to big project limited TV corporate sponsorship market which has squeezed funds available.

The only hope will be if somebody buys the project from the administrators on the cheap and then funds the rest of the development & running costs, but then it will become an Asian, Middle Eastern or Yank world record where UK will be lucky to get a mention in the small print.

Ah, but he believes in the same business antics as Michael O'Leary from Ryanair.  Provide an absolutely shit product/service, rape the punters for what you can get away with, and say stupid things that the media will pick up on, because there is no such thing as bad publicity.
