Emmerdale is on!  :)

Who's murdering who this week?  ;D
Bit boring. No mass murders, no kidnappings, not even a bit of incest. Pah!

It used to be a gentle tale of simple country folk admiring their neighbours wives and lusting after their sheep.  ::)

Aye. And all the conjecture about Henry Wilkes and Amos Brierley living together in the pub. Nudge, nudge, wink wink.  ;D

Putting aside the tv soaps, does the team reallythink the world is in a parlous state?

I would suggest it is no worse than at other times. E.g. Vietnam war, Pol Pot kmer rouge killings.. pick a time and bad things were happening somewhere on the globe. Anyone that thinks  Brexit is parlous   State needs a dose of reality. E.g. the millions at any one time starving on the planet.

The problem is down to the hiysteria that the media whips up over all news reporting. Each days news report has to be more hard hitting and shocking than the previous day.

The big plus is we have made enormous progress in medicine and technology. Shame it isnt shared equally yet.

Yes indeed Varche.  80 years ago our grandparents were listening to the march of fascism and in particular the seemingly unstoppable rise of Hitler and the Nazis, which by now had passed the Munich crisis and was obviously shaping up to be another European / World War in the making.  Within the year that would become a reality.

Brexit is nothing on that scale, and even with Putin huffing and puffing over Ukraine, the World is relatively quiet for us, but of course as ever, never for the Middle East.

World electronic driven media does magnify everything.  in 1938 it was all down to Goebbels propaganda. :(

We, me and thee, have had the best years that history had to offer in this country, in my opinion. We were born in the year that food rationing ended and things were on the up. The 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's were, relatively, very prosperous and liberal.
Things before we were born were bad, and things look as if they are going downhill again. I consider myself very lucky indeed.

You're damn right Stemo we in our 60s have had the best years life was so simple then could plan ahead & with a bit of hard graft & commonsense could achieve more or less whatever you desired.Best music throughout those years as well in my opinion.😎

Must admit I am so tired of the news and the way the media look for the worse things about life and country. Worse is the fact that programmes like East Enders and Emmerdale exist - my wife watches these and goes for catch up during the day when I am out. These programmes are just drivel and feeding story lines and life styles that show the worst in family life. I put much of this tiredness as being age related and everything seems to be a bit of a battle - and yet in reality I have nothing to be disgruntled about all things considered and yes very lucky in many ways.

TV and media and the pathetic politicians makes me agree with Steve but I draw the line at the soaps.
