LPG in our omega
« on: 18 January 2019, 03:53:53 »

Hello, I have seen that many of you use LPG in your cars, I have a X30XE wich I´m going to convert. Could you tell me if these engines are reliable to LPG or are they delicate valves?
Thanks

Very reliable if done correctly  :y

Converted mine at about 70K, if memory serves. It's now on 230K and still sweet as a nut. I doubt it's done more than a couple of K on petrol (plus warmup time) in that period. So yes, go for it. Get a decent SGI system (many of us have used the AC Stag systems) and you can't go wrong. :y

Would of considered doing mine when first bought as cover some 100 +miles a day and accept the fuel saving would of been considerable...trouble was I couldn't afford to loose the boot space being part of the reason I own an Omega. :)

Same reason I didn't convert mine. ideally a dual fuel tank in place of the existing would be the answer, but prohibitively expensive to manufacture I imagine. :y

My beloved Silver Bullet was a 3.0l, and worked very well with LPG for the 80k it was on LPG.  And frequently driven very hard.  It does suffer the lag that auto 3.2s seem to (that's there on petrol, but amplified by LPG).

I was slow to convert it due to boot space, until that light bulb moment that I only needed a boot 3 or 4 times a year, so a roof box was viable.

I unfortunately drive around with a boot full of work stuff, which for practical reasons cannot sit on the back seat or floor and being rather heavy is best in the boot.
Only time it gets all taken out is for holidays when boot gets filled back up with suitcases/etc etc,so my boot is essential and gets a very hard life :o

Having an estate makes it easier as you can put the tank in the spare wheel well  ;)

Although to get a decent sized tank in there you have to do a little bit more than just drop it in ;)

To answer the OP’s question. My first Omega did around 75k trouble free miles, my second did about 70k and was running fine when Bambi jumped out ::)

TBE is about 80k on LPG (about what the Silver Bullet managed), but the injectors I think have had it.  I might put on the Valteks of the Silver Bullet. When I CBA :D

My 3.2 was converted in May 2008 at 73568 miles ... it is now February 2019 (11 years) and 177831 miles (104263 miles) and still going strong ... average saving over the period 10.56 pence / mile or 38.22%...

Whats not to like  :)

The difficultly in getting LPG around these parts (so she tells me).  The pump at Shell in Little Oxford (Bicester) doesn't fit the car. Countrywide at Banburyshire is still awaiting for them to fix the pump, though I suspect they won't bother (its been out for months), BP here and on M40 have ripped their LPG pumps out.

Which is why I ended up with a tractor, because LPG was starting to get hassle to get without significant detours.

I did around 70k I think on LPG, not V6, but 2.2 inline 4. Never had any issues  :y

But I personally would not go LPG again, not enough stations do it, quite a few are puling pumps out and the price difference is rubbish now, so really reduces the benefit.
