'Ride a long' in facelift V6
« on: 09 July 2009, 16:48:32 »

Hello all,
This might seem a bit of a strange request or idea but here goes:
I've currently got a facelift 2.2 petrol CDX saloon. I'm really happy with it, with the exception that when you put your foot down there's not much sense of urgency. It's a large car and I think the 2.2 is only just adequate. So I thought maybe a V6 model would be better, but there simply aren't any for sale near me to go and try.
So this is my rather pecuilar idea...I was wondering if someone would take me for a drive in their facelift V6 so I can see if there's much difference? Being cheeky I'd prefer a manual. Of course I'm happy to pay for your time and petrol. Just name a price. I can't really think of any alternative that'd work. I'm located in Kidlington which is 4 miles from Oxford city centre.

If you can get yourself down to Swidnod you can certainly have a seat in mine .. :)  3.2 V6  :)  but it is an auto (the only sort there should be ...  :)  )

You might will be surprised just what an auto can do when pressed .. :)

The 3.0 manual knocks about 2.5 seconds off the 0-60 time.
The 2.5/2.6 are a little lazy as standard and knock just over a second off.
So 2.5/2.6 = noticeable improvement.
3.0/3.2 = Massive improvement :y

Josh, i am actually using mother tunnies 3.0 Elite estate at the moment, i could take you on a blast.

Having a 2.2 as my main drive, i find the V6's pull better at the high speeds. Once you get to 60/65 ish the 2.2 starts to slow a bit, and then once at 70/75 thats about it.

The 3.0 pulls really strong from 50-100. What i notice is the ooodles of power cruising at 60 ish.

Being an estate, i do get some odd looks from punks in little 'hot' hatches  ;D

Rubbish!

Driving around in mother tunnies 3.0 auto has made me miss my manual loads.

I do shift the auto manually, as i like to hold onto gears longer than the box does, but its no the same.

Give me a manual anyday!

Thanks Entwood and Tunnie for the offer. If you wouldn't mind I'd very much like to take you up on your offer Tunnie. I've met you before (service station in Bicester) and as ever you're a top bloke :)
I totally agree, at 75 the 2.2 runs out of puff, forever changing down to get up and go.

Agreed!!!

I had a 3.0 auto before my current manual. IMO there is a noticeable difference between the two.

You have a lot more control with a manual and don't need to wait for the box to kickdown. You select your gear before the corner etc. and then power out of it without having to wait.

3 pedals definitely better than 2!!! :y

If you know how to handle the auto you can do exactly the same when in "boy racer" mode, and if you combine "boy racer" mode with "sports mode" on the box .... ... it's fun time ... just don't look at the instantaneous consumption ........  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I don't disagree with that mate and I do know how to handle the auto but if you are going to do that you may as well have a manual  ::)

Ahh .. but with a manual you have do that ALL the time .... with an auto you can choose "boy racer" mode or "quiet, gentile, placid, comfortable" mode whenever you want ... best of both worlds ..  :y :y :y

Thanks TB, appreciate the offer :)
I was thinking of popping up to you sometime for some tech2 fun lol. There's no dash lights or anything, but thought it may be a good idea to run the tech2 over it to see if there are any things a miss.
