How many clay bars do you need to clay your mig? There is the Meguairs quick clay detailing system, would that be enough for one application? Also how long does a clay bar last?

Best one in my experience is Bilt-Hamber Autoclay. A bar is ten or twelve quid off Ebay, but that's easily enough to do the car twice.

 You only need tap water as lubricant, too, unlike most other clay bars - I use an old glass cleaner spray bottle.

 Well worth the effort.

One Clay bar should be fine......but make sure that you keep it moist and dont drop it on the floor

Do every area in small sections and watch the magic as the clay glides over the paaint work..  Keep checking you clay and look at the crap come off.

Hope your not just claying alone... I ve got a G220 buffer and my motor looks sweet after polishing and using tech wax to finish

This is the difference on the bonnet of my ex-plod, I think the pros call this a 50-50 shot. Used, as I say, Autoclay with tap water.

I got a bar of Bilt Hamber about 6 years ago and have used it 3 or 4 times on a Saab 9000 and once or twice on a Mk4 Golf but that is really the limit - got a new bar last week for the mig. You just keep folding it in on itself.

In hindsight it is best to chop the block of clay in half before use to get better use out of it.

Get the soft clay as it is aparently better and only about 50p more expensive.

I got mine from this guy on ebaybut he wasn't offering the free microfibre cloth at the time ( ).

If you go to Elkparts.com you can get the full pack with the lovely polish which is akin to rubbing homey over your car - much better than AutoGlym ( ) as no white residue.

CAN'T RECOMMEND THE STUFF ENOUGH!

I have the meg's clay bar i bought the kit with a cloth and two bars and a small sample of the cleaner wax. I got it when i first started to get into detiling and its a great bit of kit to start off with and let's not forget its three for two at halford's for cleaning gear at the mo so you could pick up some other stuff to get you started while your at it like a drying towel or wash mit........

so when you clay a car you wash then polish it then clay it,or do you wash it then clay it?

if it takes you 2 hrs u havent done it right
will take most of the day if not longer to do the car right

thanks for that as i thought the claying was the last part
