Work on the MV6 soon to start...
« on: 24 July 2009, 18:48:17 »

... as most will remember, it "threw s rod" and left a big hole in the block..

I've sourced a block and some heads, from 924 Boy, collecting Sunday.

I've also secured a nice large garage to work in, so I will assemble the new engine, hoist the old one out, and the new one in.

Should have it running before too long - then in for MOT  :y

Never changed a V6 engine before - and I'm going to be working alone - but hey ho, I'm sure I'll get it done easy enough.

Just need to be extra careful with health and safety malarkey....  ::)

There's H&S, and there's common sense.
The former isn't worth $hit, and the latter cannot be taught no matter what.

Agreed Killer :y

Has anyone else noticed that an alarming number of graduates don't seem to have an ounce of common sense? Probably great at what they do but no common sense!

No offence to any graduates on here who may well have lots of common sense!  :D

I think the lack of common sense from a lot of school leavers now is due to the way that modern parenting techniques ensure we wrap our youngsters up in cotton wool.

.. and it's a fallacy that university puts them in a position to walk into a job, too.

Yes,apart from the obvious things like wearing gloves, hard hat ect. make sure the vehicle is supported correctly on axle stands with an adequate safe working load.
Also ensure that any lifting equipment has been proof loaded and inspected.  It would be wise to carry out a risk assessment which may bring to light the need for further preventative measures before attempting a task of this nature :y
