Today I cleaned out the breather bridge and changed the door lock solenoid on the drivers door.  On removing the door card I found that the plastic sheet was missing from behind the door card.  I'm going to make up a replacement using a sheet of sturdy polythene I have lying around.

Noticed one of Mrs. KW's alloys has been comprehensively f**ked by a pot hole. Naturally, it's the one that I replaced with new a couple of weeks ago, not one of the other 3 that are tatty. What's the point of having nice things when you live in a 3rd world country? >:(

I claimed for a new tyre from our council on production of pothole evidence and got it. Go for it Kevin. :y

As a follow-up, went to report this with photo evidence and there is already a marker showing that a contractor has been assigned. I am taking this as evidence that the council are aware and that a possible defence of being unaware of the problem is not likely to wash. I'll get the wheel replaced and write them a snottogram. :y

Found out that a car battery that has been sat on its plastic tray for 14 years in the lads Corsa C does not come out without destroying the poxy naff plastic clamp  ::)

Thank heavens for Mr Makita and a 16mm flat bit  :-X :D :D

I wrapped one side of the exhaust down pipe with heat resistant fabric tape and attached 10 stainless steel tie wraps to hold it in place. (Given that the heat shields had rotted off).
Seems to hold in the heat quite well, although has that burning new smell, which must eventually stop.
At the weekend I'll do the other. Unless the car sets on fire first because ebay seller is a liar and not good for 1000 degrees C after all

Tried to get to the bottom of why the remote range on the BMW is so poor (like 3" from the drivers window, poor) compared to my last one; dismantled the boot lid trim and took the signal booster out to find.. nothing of any interest.

Now.. do I randomly start changing parts, or start staring at wiring diagrams. Hmmmm..

Impossible to know - it's been like that since I bought it (didn't notice at the dealer as I was always stood by the drivers door when unlocking it).. certainly nothing obviously out of place on the board, but then I don't know how the board works :)

Went out and bought some paint that's hopefully the same colour as the paint on the car to do some touch ups etc..

Fitted the new Bosch 2-4-6 coil pack to the 3.2. Back to running as sweet as a nut, however sweet that is. :-\ ::)

Picked up car from Serek in Huntingdon after service and mot. Top job and top man.

Had an Insignia while he had my car. 2 litre diesel turbo. Not bad. Might have to think about getting one. Any views?  I had one of the early ones before and was not that impressed but now I might be interested.

Same engine as my astra. I'm getting 43mpg around town, not to be sniffed at. I like it, but it suits my needs, yours may be different.

Thanks STEMO. Not sure what my needs are yet. Impulse has a lot to do with it. Wife complains about my old Omega. Things are changing in my life (employment) and I am getting on. I might need a newer car. Tough choices.

I took a mates base model 2010 (ie, early) model to the south west of France back in 2012 (I couldn't take the Omega as we were using the tunnel), and it was better than expected, even more so, because this was the detuned 130bhp variant.

It was a perfectly adequate, in due to its low power, fairly rewarding.  Over the entire holiday (over 2000 miles) it achieved around 50mpg, and a single set of brake pads.
