2.2 exhaust manifold removal !
« on: 29 July 2006, 20:34:17 »

Hi Folks,

OK today i bit the bullet, and decided that today was the day, to remove the manifold !

All 10 nuts came undone quite easily, although access to 2 of the bottom ones was a bit of ******* !

Used the Ambersil rust flash to give the nuts/studs a good soaking , and weather or not it helped i will never know, but i need not have worried, no broken studs etc !
One slight twitch in the bottom department, one nut was VERYYYYYYYY tight indeed !

It worked out to be a very very and i mean very small leak on the No1 exhaust port ( you could just about see the soot mark coming over the embossed section on the gasket face !)

Cleaned up all the mating surfaces, new gaskets, new nuts, copper grease all the studs  and hey presto, no more little leak !

Thanks to all that previously provided words of encouragment etc , saying it would be all right on the night :-) it was , but boy Mr Bum hole was working overtime to day !!!

Cheers me dears,

Mark ( happy chappy )

No sign of any cracks in the manifold?

No signs of any cracks at all, thank-god !
Was expecting either at least one snapped stud, or a cracked manifold, but all worked out to be OK on the day !

Still a little noisy of a cold start up, but people on here have said it could just be the secondry air pump making that noise, its definatley not the exhaust now, complete new sysytem including the CAT and new exhaust manifold gasket.

Trouble is, and i have looked i STILL cant find that dammed air pump, where is it hiding !

I have looked under the wheel arch everywhere and i cant see it !!!

The secondary air pump is in the passenger side front corner above the car horns.
