Omega Knocking.
« on: 29 August 2006, 15:43:16 »

Last night went to see a omega, 2.5 CDX for £100, Only problems i can see are as follows:

1>Loud knocking from one of the heads.
2>Oil in the water (no sign of water in the oil) [1'm thinking head gasket]
3>Over filled with oil (about two inches up the dip-stick) [i'm think what a muppet]

The owner seams very genuine, It started knocking so he asked a mated, they advised him to put some more oil in, so he did and the knocking got louder.

Good points are, its has 9 month MOT, Leather seats and bodywork is in good condition

Any advice welcome....

In response to the knocking does it sound anything like the video in Allenm thread

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1153140766/195

Could be that the cambelt has slipped.

Thought I would post up as its almost the same car.

Oil in the water sounds like its the Oil cooler thats gone, if there is no smell of fuel in the coolant tank then thats good just the oil cooler.

As for the loud noises comming from the head, could be its had a cambelt snap.

Does it start & run?

Been thinking about this it could be the hydraulic cam followers or one of the cam (clamps?) has come loose causing all the noise.

When I had a loud knocking noise you could feel it through the cam cover, could you tell on this one at all from touch.
(Project car had this and now runs sweet as a nut)

When was the last oil change as dry cam followers/tappits can be rather loud.

Its starts and running, i had a good listen to it, and the driver side head sounded like a bag of nails.

Well if the cars in as good as nick as you say for 100 smackers, what are you waiting for !

Plenty of threads on here suggesting used heads can be got for about £100, so worse case senario is a new  used head, gaskets etc , you could have a running car for £300 ishhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh BARGAIN !

Move quick, Ronnie Radar will be sniffing the where abouts of this car as i speak  LLOOLLL !

Your kanckered then Mike, Ronnie wont need his Radar, he will be able to smell the Omega in distress  ;D

Go round Ronnies house and nail his feet to the floor, then at least you may stand a chance of getting the car if you want it  ;) Other wise it will be Ronnie project No 101
