Knock Sensor 2

Project TB1 keeps lighting up EML with Knock Sensor Circuit 2.

I think I need to renew the plenum O rings as they look tired, and there does seem to be a sucking noise from under plenum.

Could this possible air leak cause the knock sensor error? Or should I be replacing knock sensor? Can they be swapped side to side (see if fault moves with sensor or stays on same bank)?

Any pointers on what else can cause this problem would be appreciated....

I also reckon the car is holding back a little, esp under load...  ...related? Could be, as normally when eml comes on...

Is the part number the same for the two?? Different part numbers would suggest a difference.

Did you change the petrol filter?

I haven't changed fuel filter - wouldn't have thought that would cause knock sensor probs? Might affect performance though...

Struggling to find Knock sensor part codes, probably Vx call them something else...

Found the part nos, look like same each side. Just need to find them on the car.....

I think the holding back may be related to knock sensor (this would retard ignition I guess?).... ...I'd be surprised if the fuel filter would make that much difference (this car does seem quite sluggish).

Your prob rite m8.....just remember Ron saying changing the fuel filter on one of his many, made a world of difference   :)

My MV6 one was fairly dirty (thanks dealer, for charging me for replacing, and not  >:(), but difference wasn't really noticable.

I believe the knock sensors are piezo ceramic, so they're likely to give a problem if cracked (physically damaged) or loose. Otherwise there's not much else to go wrong except wiring.

I'd check it's on tight first.

I wouldn't expect an air leak to fool them.

Next question - where is the actual sensor itself (can't trace wiring as it had worn right through).  Haynes isn't that clear and suggests just in front of oil filter (can't see it is is) and remove engine mount! Surely it won't require that amount of effort?

Can it be reached from above - is it above or below the manifold?

Had to change both of mine last year. The one you want is below the manifold, around the engine mount area. You don't need to dismantle engine mount, but a flexable? extension bar is useful(or use a small socket set). Took 5mins to get it off and 20mins to run the new cable following old route.
Yes it does affect performance (a lot in my case). Hope this helps. :)

Despite plenty of looking, I can't even see the damn thing. Even took off oil filter for better access :(

I have managed to repair the sensor wiring - and the thing now goes much, much better  :D

Thanks for everyones help, esp Marks_DTM for his invaluable help

Rember if any admin says a job is easy, to us normal folk its fairly hard.

A 'fiddly' job would take us about a day or 2

And if they say a job is hard, forget it!!! Try getting blood from a stone, that would be easier  ;) ;D
