I think the last time I went to Vx it cost about £40 + Vat never been there since.

Good Luck in finding a cheap Tech2 place.

Dealer charges vary, but usually around £45 + VAT for simple plug in and read codes.

Needless to say, the lucky souls who live near me get a much better deal ;)

The cheapo Tech2 lead I borrowed claimed to read Vauxhalls from 97 on. Probably with varying degrees of success. I only tried on my 98 model.

Unlikely it would read Vectra-C/Signum or Astra-H as they are CAN bus cars. Even real Tech2 needs an add-on called CANdi for those buggers (good job I have a CANdi then ;))

If you can tolerate the buggy software, learn Hungarian (some stuff still not in English) and have a computer with COM1 (forget that software claims to be able to do other COM ports), it'll be £40 well spent IMHO.

Not a replacement for the real thing though ;)

It also read my 2.6 facelift 2001, if this info is of any help to anyone.

(The engine codes and airbag modules seem to work OK, though the transmission ECU and other modules were not accessible)

It can read my gearbox ecu.....i suspect it depends on what type of ecu you have.....i think i was lucky

My Vx Dealer charges £45+VAT for 'inspection', whether Tech2 is required or not. If you happen to have your car serviced at Vx, then ask them to do whatever extra job you want while it is being serviced, it works out far cheaper than booking it in for a separate job.

I was offered a cambelt change by Vx at the 4y service for £260, declined as I didn't believe them that the cambelt needs doing at 4y, joimed the 'other' forum and had Mark DTM kicked my butt for not having it done, went back to the dealer a couple of months later, been quoted £420(!) this time, negotiated it down to a not-insignificant £320 and had it done.
