Nitrous on a 2l
« on: 10 September 2006, 14:35:51 »

well ive gone mad, seen a site which gives me all the know how to do the aforementioned, and just wondered if anyone else has any experience of fitting nitrous to a x20xev or anything else for that matter. any ideas what kind of BHP these lumps can take? not much id say, gonna start small and build my way up, need to source a cheap preferably diesel runaround to tide me over during the install and in case the inevitable happens and i blow the motor up. :-[
any ideas, advise, warnings???????

From a Moral Standpoint, don't do it, it's cheating.... any one can get a bottle of NOS..... get manly upgrades, your engine will last longer, and make a better noise.

I used to think it was the way forward, I HAD it fitting to my old Astra.
About 6 months later the engine would never fire up without 2-3 crank overs, and sounded like a bag of spanners. I would go through a bottle a week in carpark races. It pretty much nackered the car, and so I got rid of it.

But NOS it wrong and is only for RICE Boys.

Cheers.

ah sounds like you had one of those american nos setups surprised it lasted that long, the thing is the engine is already a pile of bolts dont like these 2l lumps much and cant afford the road tax of anything bigger so i think il let it go out in style

Yeah mine worked on Kickdown, and when I was a younger man, I used to drive everywhere on kickdown...  ;D

Well if you don't like the engine well you have nothing to loose, but it will wreck your engine.

You can get different size nozzles, I had the 100BHP one.. :)

But the 25 or 50BHP one could be OK I guess, even so the engine will eventually become a bag of spanners, and not start or even run, and burn oil like a bugger... Well thats how mine died anyways.

Cheers.

cheers matt great to get some feed back from someone who had it from what i gather letting it run lean is a big big problem. not looking to go much over 50 bhp and might go for a two stage system, would love to have a bit more for overtaking and as i said dont rate the engine maybe it is just my one but its got no torque

Why not give a turbo cav engine a better home?

not a bad idea i have looked into fitting a turbo to what i gotseems fairly straight forward but the nitrous is the cheapest horsepower around
