Where to put the Parrot
« on: 19 November 2006, 21:13:32 »

Hi Guys

Looking for some more advice and photo's if pos' hope you can help.

I've decided after all your great advice, to go for the Parrot phone kit, proberbly the new one the 3200. In to a 2003 Facelift.

My question is where best to put it and what bracket to use. Ideally I'd like it fairly close, ( the old bins are going a bit now)  so dont want to be squinting at the thing, but dont want to obstruct anything important. Ideally I dont want to be drilling holes in the dash etc or cables hanging every where.

So if any of you chaps have found the best spot for your kit, I'd really appreciate it and any photos.

Ps I know a couple of you have already suggested their profered place, but could do with a bit more detail.

Cheers :y

You want to put it near the Sat Nav so it can enter the Post Code  ::)

I know mines a pre facelift, but itll work the same.

Get some 25*2mm flat aluminium bar, cut it about 75mm long, and bent the end 25-35mm to 90 degrees

This bent end can be fed between the trim under the instuments and the top of the 'soft' bit above the climate control.

Then just screw the parrot display to this.

As the fascia needs to be out to connect to the radio the wires can be fed between climate display and rest of dash.

Pics below may help:-

Upgraded to the colour version:-

Alternatively just get the 'extra' bit of dash that goes along side the centre consule by the glove box and fix it to that.

The radar detector is fitted to it in my car in the second picture

I used to have a Nokia car kit fitted to mine. It fitted to a tee bracket that slotted in between the fakey wood and interior trim about level with the hazard light button on the left of the centre console. It was a proper part from a phone shop. Just can't remember where it was from or the brand name.

It was a nice installation and allowed the cables to be fed into the trim with no holes being drilled. It was out of the way but easily reached.

What about mounting it on the bit of trim to the left of the headlight switch near the steering column?

The colour 3200 is fine, the older version had problems with connecting and phone book sync but its all been ironed out

Piece of cake to use and well worth having, especially if like me you have 2 phones.  :)

By the time the 'box of tricks' is shoved in  the passenger foot well the cable isnt long enough, but with the facelift double din there may be more room to ger the box nearer the head unit then it would.

Only other problem would be seeing it, as you can access the phone book from the screen without touching the phone, if it was hidden by the light switch it may make it difficult to see.

those brackets are called "dashmount" strangely enough, i use them all the time for phone kits, LCD screens and radar detectors. http://www.dashmount.com but they kind of limit where you can put things and they tend to be a bit big for items ike the parrot kits. (not to mention quite pricey.)

Would one of those fit in the top lip of the face lift, above the wood trim?

As mentioned, the old eyesight is going a bit, wouldn't want it to be over on the Pas' side ideally. Plus would profer it more 'heads up'

But without showing it off to some scrot, thinking it was a sat nav worth smashing the window for. >:(
