I think I made a mistake
« on: 19 October 2016, 14:59:10 »

In buying a project Omega.

Not in the choice of car. I love the car.

But as with any old car it needs stuff doing. And I have over estimated what I am capable of, physically.

Attempting the crank seal was a bit silly. Certainly with the 300nm bolt.

I have decided I cannot contemplate a wheel bearing.

I can tinker in an engine bay but heavier stuff is just, out of the question.

As much as I love cars I love my health more and I can't hinder my recovery.

I'm now stuck between, do I pay someone to do the remaining jobs, or do I hang up my spanners and call it a day?

Or.....hang up your spanners until you recover enough to pick them up again.

That's what I meant :y

I fear that's likely to be months however until I can do anything remotely heavy.

One step at a time. :y

You've done well to get this far and the car will still be there waiting when you can tackle heavier jobs.

Don't know how many £££'s you've already invested in the omega, so can't really say. If someone finishes it off, will you still be happy with what you've got for the money? If you leave it until you're fit, will it rust away over the winter?

Not worried financially. I won't lose or gain and I'm not looking to.

I'm just venting frustration that I over estimated the stage I was at :)

I think for me I've done pretty well, in that I've realised my limits and stopped, rather than doing myself harm :y

Build yourself up slowly. If you're bored, get some 'movies' and start with your right/left arm.  ;D

Given the fresh Mot, the Omega is unlikely to dissolve if left for a spell...  ::)

That said, if you're wanting it done with the minimum of fuss, give Nick W a shout :y

If Sassenach is still around, I know he pops in occasionally, and still has his unit in Trowbridge he'll do a wheel bearing for you in less than 45 minutes !!

Well worth the ask IMHO !!  :)

Sometimes James you need to take a step backwards in order to take two forward in the future.  :y

Rest up mate, sounds like the brain is willing but the body is not, not yet anyway.  ;)

Oh dear that's a real shame. But maybe take things a bit more slowly.

But at least you had the pleasure of a day trip to Wales  :y

I've not made any decisions. Just frustrated that I can't do as much as I thought :)

No you didn't make a mistake James.  There's no harm in pushing yourself, but the trick is to know your limits and stop before you do yourself some harm, which is what you have done.  :y

The mistake would have been if you'd carried on regardless and set your recovery back.  Although I'm sure from your perspective, your recovery is frustratingly slow, from what I've read on here ( and I'm sure everyone will agree) you're doing amazingly well!  :y  :y  :y
