Yes, but you have to use cool looking gold plated resistors in neon colours with water cooling to hold the tolerances,  :) :)  From an electronic design perspective you are of course completely correct.

Speakers in a tin box, then add mp3 formating to further reduce the original quality, but have loads of artificially boosted bass, way way beyond the original source, then throw in an internal combustion engine and  inherent resonance..... 90% of car "hifi" aftermarket hype/sales claims don't stand up, its a major rip off.

.....and the worlds noisiest power supply.....

Hooray....somebody who agrees with me.....see Laidback66....see!

As I have always said, there is no such thing as car Hifi.....

Yes... I was reading this earlier thinking, "oh god, just wait 'til Mark reads this!"  ;D

Not arguing with any of it, simply trying to do the best I can with the constraints of a car...

Bl**dy audiophiles....  ::)

I am scared of becoming one, I have quite a bit of kit but all middle market, scared of needing top end kit.

Still need an amp though

Martin, you'll be wasting your money!

Whenever I hear car 'audiophiles' boasting about how good their system sounds, I always wonder if they have ever heard a real home setup.

My freind has a brand new Lexus LS430, which has reputedly one of the best car systems, but although it sounds good, I wasn't impressed.  Still nowhere near as good as a proper home system.  The car's main advantage is that it is very, very quiet when being driven.

But anyone can significantly improve the standard system of course simply by adding a sub.  It's the low frequencies which suffer most.  You just need to overcome the cabin noise with a decent amount of low distortion amplification.

After that, the law of diminishing returns kicks in.  You'll notice a difference between the standard system and an £800 setup, but you probably wont notice a difference between an £800 and £2000 setup.

I know home systems are better, I have a 5.0 system for home cinema and it is also very good for CD, as well as DVD-A and SACD.

I want a decent turntable though!

On another forum I got picked on for being rude about Bose rubbish!

As a mid cost factory fit system, the Bose is quite good (relatively speaking), and fairly well balanced.

I've got a Thorens TD16 with a Helius Scorpio Gold (very rare) arm in my loft somewhere.  I'll dig it out after I move in April.  You can try that if you want?

Aghhhhhh!!! Went missing!

I was on about home systems where they spend a lot on marketing trying to sell overpriced under performing systems.

My speakers are fairly flat from around 50-60 up to when my hearing doesn't work (17k to 18k)

Less than £100.  Depending on condition.  But it'll be a while before I get round to unpacking it!
