Autobox Update
« on: 09 November 2015, 19:35:50 »

I have a 3.0 auto elite (p reg) and have been wondering what gains their is to be had from an update. Is it worth doing and is anyone close to Staffordshire that could offer their services and how much £££?

Regards

Jim

Had this idea myself before; it is possible that your/our age of autobox software cannot be updated. If it can, however, it's meant to be a worthwhile update, making it a bit more 'intelligent' and picking the right gear more often.  :y

I spoke to MarksDTM regarding tech2 work and at some point will be availing myself of his services.

Another idea I had was to investigate whether a later gearbox ECU can be sourced and fitted, which will definitely allow the update. I've drawn a blank if thisis possible, as yet, but I'll keep digging  :)

Thanks DBG, ill need to find out if mine can be updated - anyone have an idea to find out?

The later ecu sounds a good idea, might have a trip to a scrappy and relieve one.

Thanks for the reply

ECUs aren't (easily) interchangeable.

1997? If it PFL or MFL? PFL not upgradable, MFL is.

Thanks TB. Right, new gearbox time, then!  :D

To the OP, the world and his mate on OOF are always upgrading their gearboxes for the stronger AR35, and I have seen AR25 boxes (same as yours, mine, and the majority of Auto Omegas) actually given away or sent to the scrap man with no takers.

Either see if anyone's got one at the moment spare - if not, if you hold off and keep an eye out for anyone posting a 'wanted' ad for a AR35, they're sure to have a gearbox going begging at some point in the near future.  :y

I have an ECU from my '99 3L MV6 that was converted to manual - it has the latest(last) software already on it but I've no idea if it is a direct swap, I can provide photos of the connector if it helps.

If you Elite an MV6, does that make it an MVee-leet?

I thought all 3L autos had the AR35 box, no?

Pm me you VIN number and I'll check on EPC for you.

All 3.0/3.2 have AR35, all others are AR25. AR25 is normally fine where fitted, except on the 2.5TD, where it has a tendency to fail at about 120k, or within a few hundred miles if chipped.

Pre 1998 are not flashable.  1998 - 2001 GS820 are flashable, and the v9 (6 cylinder)/vA (4 cylinder) is particularly refined. 2001-2003 GS821, as fitted to 2.2, 2.6, 3.2 are flashable, but lack the refinement of the later firmwares for GS820.

ECUs are not interchangeable between "eras".
